Job Title:  Shooting Sports Manager (Trainer III)

Job Description:
Do you love the shooting sports?  Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge of shooting sports with others? Join our amazing Hunter Education team at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, we are looking for a skilled, passionate Shooting Sports Manager.  This position is responsible for promoting, and implementing various programs that may include, but are not limited to: National Archery in the Schools Program, Utah Hunting Skills Challenge, Hunter Education, continuing education clinics and workshops related to hunting, shooting, wildlife/outdoor recreation, etc.  This position will maintain well trained and adequate archery/shooting sports instructors.

As part of the Hunter Education/Shooting Sports team, you will help ensure that Utahns who hunt and shoot as part of the wildlife recreation activities will continue to have opportunities. Hunter Education
  • Manage the shooting sports program, budget, curricula development, equipment-specific training for volunteers.
  • Promote the National Archery in the Schools Program, recruit new schools, train new instructors, and oversee grants.
  • Plan and execute the NASP State bullseye tournament and 3D tournament.
  • Plan, promote and conduct the annual Youth Hunter Education Challenge.
  • Coordinate the shooting sports program resources and expertise aspect of the various clinics.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Customer service/public relations skills and/or experience
  • Professional experience working with volunteers.
  • Abitlity to successfully manage day to day opertions of several programs.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Possess skills and abilities to develop partnerships.
  • Knowledge of volunteer management.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of hunting and shooting methods and techniques.
  • Experience or knowledge of planning and implementing single-day and multiple-day events.
  • Coordinate teams of diverse people to implement programs.
Working Conditions:
  • Risks found in a typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform work, however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items; driving a vehicle, etc.
  • Work regularly requires physical exertion. 
  • May require the ability to walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner or for long periods of time.  
  • This position may require occasional work outdoors under all weather conditions. 
  •  May be required to work evenings and weekends.  
  • Risks that require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, working around firearms, operating machines, working with hazardous chemicals, etc.
Requirements:
  • Valid Driver's license
  • DNR required training (defensive driving, security awareness, etc.)  
  • Must successfully pass a background check to be able to work with youth
  • Occasional travel in-state and out-of-state
  • Some weekend and evening work
Certifications/Licenses:
  • NASP Basic Archery Instructor Trainer certification
  • Hunter Education Instructor certification

Salary : $27 - $32
