Status Examiner
Insurance Compliance Specialist

The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Contributions Unit at the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking two (2) skilled and motivated individuals to work as an Insurance Compliance Specialist. Individuals in this role work with customers via phone and online chats.  Primary duties include registering new employers with payroll; assigning tax rates based on industry; walking customers through on-line systems in a clear and precise manner and working multiple queues with varying deadlines.

This is an office position which allows teleworking once trained. New employees will be required to work at the Olene Walker Building for a minimum of six months and meet all performance requirements prior to being allowed to work from home on a hybrid basis. All staff once fully trained will be required to work in-office two days a week. This position requires in-office team meetings/training once per month. 


Principal Duties
Insurance Compliance Specialists will need to be able to work independently on a range of duties that may include:
  • Receives, researches, and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains policy and procedures, and/or facilitates a resolution.
  • Interprets, clarifies, explains, and applies agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines, etc.
  • Identifies data and information which suggests developing patterns of problems or complaints, from which general or specific trends and patterns can be discerned, suggesting a need for further investigation.
  • Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations.
  • Identifies problems or potential problem areas and recommends solutions.
  • Validates state payroll against federal reports.
  • Establishing employer accounts pursuant to statute.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has:
  • The ability to work multiple queues with tight time constraints.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor during challenging calls as well as the ability to show sensitivity and tact.
  • Ability to learn and understand Employment Security Act and relative rules, policies and procedures and apply them effectively.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Takes the initiative to resolve issues, learn new skills and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Has strong interpersonal skills, takes the initiative to communicate with others and resolves differences in an amicable fashion.
  • Is well organized, proficient with Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs.
Preference 
Preference may be given to applicants who has:
  • Preference may be given to applicants who speak Spanish fluently.
  • Experience with customer service and data collection.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
