DSHS WSH- Laundry Worker 2
The Department of Social and Health Services is seeking a temporary Laundry Worker 2 to join the team in Lakewood, WA at Western State Hospital (WSH). In this role, you will help meet our customers’ needs by delivering high-quality textiles in a timely and cost-effective manner within an industrial laundry setting. Duties include operating washers, dryers, flat irons, and folding clothing.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.
Some of what you'll do in this role:
- Perform routine laundry tasks and operate various laundry equipment
- Process and decontaminate linen according to institutional standards
- Sort linen and prepare outgoing orders by folding and bundling
- Operate large commercial washers, dryers, and ironer machines
- Manage and change laundry chemicals as needed
- Separate linen into correct baskets for washing
What we're looking for:
- Ability to learn to use laundry chemicals safely and correctly
- Ability to learn to operate laundry machines, extractors, and mangles properly
- Ability to learn to wash, dry, and iron institutional clothing and linens
- Ability to count, mark, sort, fold, bundle, and tie laundry
- Ability to receive, understand, and follow instructions accurately
- Effective communication with management, peers, and clients to carry out assigned duties
Who should apply?
Individuals with six months of experience as a Laundry Worker 1, or equivalent, in a large commercial or large institutional laundry.
Completion of a training course in laundry operations may substitute for three months of required experience.
NOTE: Employees must successfully complete the formal in-training course within one year of their appointment.
