Title- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Advisory Committee Member

Openings- Four (4)

Job Status- Unpaid/Volunteer 

Appointment Length- Four (4) years

 

We are currently looking for one representative from each of the following regions: 

Region 2 – North Central (Okanogan, Chelan, Douglas, Grant, and Adams Counties)

Region 3 - South Central (Benton, Franklin, Kittitas, and Yakima Counties)

Region 5 – Southwest (Clark, Cowlitz, Klickitat, Lewis, Skamania and Wahkiakum Counties)

Eastern Washington Ad-Hoc representative - Can be located anywhere in Eastern Washington and does not need to be a person with a disability.

The Americans with Disability Act Advisory Committee (ADAAC) to the Fish and Wildlife Commission consists of Washington residents with disabilities or experience with supporting residents with a disability and represent each of the agency designated administrative regions, and one member at large. 


The Advisory Committee represents the interests of disabled hunters, fishers, and wildlife viewers on matters pertaining to special hunts, modified sporting equipment, barriers to access to public lands, WDFW managed lands as well as hunting and fishing opportunities.


What to Expect-

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Americans with Disability Act Advisory Committee (ADAAC) should:


  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Fish and Wildlife Commission regarding accessibility issues brought forth by the Department, Constituents, and/or Commission members. 
  • Provide advice and recommendations to Department Staff regarding accessibility issues in the Regions.
  • Represent the experiences and challenges of people with disabilities involved in hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing in their region.
  • Propose solutions to improve access to WDFW-managed lands, facilities, and waterways.
  • Be willing to collaborate in a team environment with a shared vision of equity and inclusion.
  • Be motivated to advocate for people with disabilities.
  • Be available to travel and attend in-person meetings when needed.
  • Utilize basic computer skills and the internet for virtual meetings.


Terms of Service

  • Members are appointed to represent one of WDFW’s six administrative regions or serve as the at-large representative.
  • One member will also serve as the committee chair.
  • Appointments are for four-year terms.
  • The committee meets at least twice a year 
  • A majority of members present constitutes a quorum.
  • Members serve without compensation, but travel expenses (lodging, meals, and transportation) are reimbursed.
  • Members (or individuals acting on their behalf) are immune from civil liability for official actions taken in their role.
