In this role, you will respond to requests for protected health information from a wide variety of requestors, and process requests for outside data. You will conduct chart and provider documentation audits, and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes. You'll ensure accurate, complete patient health records while providing excellent customer service to patients, families, and staff.
Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.
Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
What we are looking for:
- Knowledge of hospital, state, and federal regulatory standards, policies, and procedures regarding the release of confidential patient information
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding and guidelines
- Ability to work as a team member and resolve personal conflicts in a calm, non-threatening manner
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with medical and legal professionals, management, peers, patients, and the public
- Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of a computer, copy machine, scanning equipment, Adobe Pro, Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, etc.
Associate Degree in health information management, business administration, or related field;
AND
Five years of experience in a Health Information Management (medical records) office, office management, healthcare privacy office, compliance office or closely related area
OR
Equivalent experience/education
Positions generally require current and ongoing accreditation through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
