What do we need?

We’re seeking professionals with IP docketing experience to join our firm and become an integral part of our Docketing department. Our firm has one large office in Washington, DC, but with the changes COVID-19 has brought to our firm, we are eager to consider experienced candidates in the DC area and beyond! This position can either be hybrid in person and remote from the DC area or full-time remote from outside the DC area.

How will you make a difference?

Our docketing team members are critical players in making sure our firm stays on top of the many moving pieces and deadlines in our intellectual property operations. Docketing has many responsibilities, but some important responsibilities are:

  • Processing incoming correspondence and/or discrepancy reports on a daily basis and in a timely manner, by accurately reviewing correspondence and entering case details and due dates into the firm's docketing database.
  • Docketing of U.S., foreign and PTO Litigation due dates in the firm's docketing systems, as necessary, based upon confirmed USPTO/PTAB filings and/or confirmation of instructions and filings from clients and foreign associates.
  • Dedocketing/Redocketing dates in compliance with established firm docket clearing procedures and the firm's Last Day List prevention initiative.
  • Accurately capturing case details and all due dates in firm's docketing system and maintaining a high level of quality by reviewing all data entry on a daily basis.
  • Assist with the processing and reviewing of new, original and transfer-in matters; assigning new client and matter numbers; entering complete and relevant data from the New Matter Form into docketing database in accordance with department service level agreements.

What will you bring to the role?

  • Established IP docketing experience and strong patent docketing skills. Docketing Specialists at our firm typically have 5-7 years of IP docketing experience.  
  • An eye for details and proven organizational skills.
  • Associate’s degree or higher required; or any combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • A problem-solving mentality.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong teamwork skills. Our docketing department is structured into teams and each team member provides crucial support to each another.
  • Openness and flexibility to change and varying workloads.
  • Ability to learn and retain new information.
  • Familiarity with formatting reports and spreadsheets and capable of formatting form letters.
