What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Swimming Specialist position at Stevens Cooperative School?
A Summer Camp Swimming Specialist at Stevens is excited and willing to be innovative and incorporate new ideas into the swimming program, as well as continue with what is already successful. Working well with others in a small community and instilling confidence in the program with parents is required. Strong verbal communication skills are necessary in order to develop interpersonal relationships with staff and campers. The swimming specialist works closely with each camp class assisting the campers to improve their swimming abilities. The swimming specialist will be the lead Stevens teacher in the pool during each swimming class in addition to the instructors and lifeguard on duty.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be prepared to lead swim activities during free swim periods
- Be prepared to support instructional lessons which will be lead by instructors at the pool facilities
- Implement and hone the camp’s already successful swim program ensuring that it is mission-aligned
- Maintain and update a listing of campers needing floatation devices
- Maintain the health and safety of all campers
- Provide a secure environment to learn, play, and care for and support the developmental needs of each child
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child development in the primary years
- Use physical activities and teamwork to foster social emotional skill development and strength of character lessons
- Demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Collaborate with Camp Administrative staff and Instructional Swim partners to create consistency in program
- Communicate with colleagues and parents around student issues and needs
- Participate in the life of the camp and be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Summer Camp Director
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Lifeguard certification preferred but not required
- Excellent character
- Experience working with children
- Experience in a formal swimming program as a participant and/or instructor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- 1 Staff orientation in May
- 8 weeks (mid June - mid August)
Job Types: Part-time, Contract, Temporary
Pay: $860.00 - $1,160.00 per week
