JOB DESCRIPTION
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting payroll processing and related administrative tasks across multiple departments and entities. This role ensures timely and accurate payroll submissions, maintains payroll records, and provides assistance with reporting, audits, and employee inquiries.
Duties
- Champions The Layton Way by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
- Ensures that Constructing with Integrity is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
- Processes and verifies payroll data, including timekeeping records, deductions, garnishments, and adjustments.
- Maintains payroll records and supporting documentation in an organized and accurate manner.
- Updates employee information such as job changes, department transfers, tax withholdings, and direct deposit details.
- Tracks and monitors payroll deadlines to ensure timely and compliant processing.
- Assists with payroll-related reporting and reconciliations.
- Responds to employee questions related to pay, deductions, and timekeeping.
- Supports audits by providing required payroll documentation and records.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Protects sensitive payroll data by maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as assigned.
- 3 years of experience in payroll administration, accounting, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in accounting, HR, or finance preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic knowledge of Word.
- Familiarity with payroll software and timekeeping systems preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in data entry and documentation.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with employees and internal teams.
- Demonstrates integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
- Knowledge of wage and hour laws, tax reporting, and payroll best practices is a plus.
