Hygiene Assistant

Hours of Operation

Monday-Thursday 8am - 5pm

Friday 8am - 2pm

1 Saturday/month 8am - 12pm

Summary

Partners with the office team to provide excellent clinical support to help patients get their needed care. Chairside assistance to the hygienist includes preparation of treatment rooms, instruments, and tray setup for hygiene procedures and other services requested by the hygienist.

Essential Responsibilities

•Provides excellent chair-side clinical support and assistance to doctors and hygienists which includes but is not limited to charting, operatory set/clean up, and patient education.

•Trains and instructs team members in job duties and company policies or arranges for training to be provided and holds team members accountable for such training.

•Delegates hygiene assistants; coordinates and delegates daily tasks and responsibilities.

•Records and reviews patient health history, makes chart entries under the direction of the doctor/hygienist and ensures completion of forms and signatures in dental software.

•Enters and updates patient treatment plans at the direction of the treating doctor.

•Performs coronal polishing and floss patients, with certification.

•Prepares treatment estimates for review and discussion with patient.

•Reviews the daily schedule to set up appropriate trays and instruments.

•Prepares patients, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, maintains chain of asepsis, prepares materials, and assists dentist/hygienist during dental procedures following OSHA guidelines.

•Exposes and develops dental diagnostic radiographs.

•Operates and maintains steam autoclaves, keeping records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed.

•Records sterilizer test results.

•Appoints all patients with future hygiene and recalls appointments and effectively utilizes and maintains a system of contact for patient follow-up/re-care.

•Follows OSHA regulations and safety requirements to include compliance with HIPAA guidelines, CPR, X-rays, and other required certifications and registrations.

•Assists dentist/hygienist in the management of medical and dental emergencies.

•Follows company policies, procedures, and company training regarding patient care including but not limited to scheduling and time management protocols.

•Maintains the cleanliness of the dental practice both in and outside the dental practice.

•Participates in marketing events to promote dental services and the practice.

•Expected to work all scheduled work days, during scheduled hours and report to work on time.

•Abides by NADG standard of care protocols and procedures.

•Supports NADG Care Cycle and will prioritize ‘best-in-class’ care to patients.

•Other duties as assigned.

Experience/Requirements

All team members will abide by state and federal regulations to complete job duties

•0 to 2 years’ experience on the job training

•Valid Dental Radiographer License for respective state requirements

•CPR certification required

•Coronal polishing certification may be required for the respective state.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

  • Digital Dentistry: Has knowledge of digital equipment and software used within practice. Examples include: Open Dental, Primescan, Overjet, etc.

Education/Training

  • Certification or Associate’s degree from an accredited school or on-the-job training

Physical/Environmental

  • Sitting, standing, and bending for long periods.
  • The individual can make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble exceedingly small objects.
  • The individual demonstrates the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The individual demonstrated the ability to keep the hand and arm steady while moving the arm or while holding the arm and hand in one position.
  • The individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands, and can deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Position requires frequent talking, hearing, and vision with moderate walking and reaching.
  • General clinical environment with frequent exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, patient body fluids and/or tissue, and physical hazards such as needle sticks.
  • Repetitive Motion.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
