Sudden Pitch is a private, member-owned, and run not-for-profit 501c(7) tennis, pool, and social club in Manchester, NH. Formed in 1955 by 67 founding families, Sudden Pitch derived its name from a steep embankment at the club leading down to a brook. Sudden Pitch members enjoy recreation, social activities, and fellowship with their family, friends, and neighbors.

Job Summary:

The Head Lifeguard reports to the Board of Directors Pool Committee. The Head Lifeguard performs all Lifeguard and Senior Lifeguard duties to ensure a safe, orderly, and fun pool area for all members and their guests. Additionally, the Head Lifeguard assists in the planning and supervision of staff training, scheduling, vendor, and member communications, and pool maintenance and recordkeeping.

Job Duties:

  • Actively monitor pools when open to members to identify any swimmers in distress and perform rescues as needed.
  • Applies first aid as needed.
  • Monitor member activity in the pool area and intervene as needed to ensure compliance with club rules.
  • Follow all documented procedures for lifeguards, including, but not limited to:
  • Pool opening and closing procedures
  • Pool water testing, documentation, and reporting
  • Pool cleaning
  • Pool Incident documentation and reporting
  • Inspection, and reporting on the condition of all pool and bathroom facilities, club-house, equipment, and pool furniture.
  • Maintain bathroom cleanliness and supplies between cleaning crew cleanings.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all pool and lifeguard office areas and equipment with due care.
  • Inspect club grounds outside the pool area and report or rectify any issues, such as emptying garbage barrels, and other minor grounds maintenance.
  • Greet guests and contribute to the engaged and friendly atmosphere of the club at all times.
  • Per procedures, perform other duties to facilitate the running of the club
  • Conduct swim instruction for Red Cross Swim Instruction Levels 1-3, and maintain accurate records of student achievement.
  • Coach and mentor Lifeguards as needed to ensure member safety and adherence to policy and procedure.
  • Coordinate lifeguard shift coverage to ensure appropriate staff coverage to comply with club policies.
  • Review, ensure accuracy of, and submit lifeguard time tracking to the Pool Committee.
  • Monitor, document, and report pool chemical and pool water testing supply stock levels.
  • Organize, lead, and document Lifeguard in-service training and skills checks to ensure Lifeguards are fully competent in first aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques.
  • Assists in the creation and update of Lifeguard and pool policies.
  • Be constructive in discipline, helpful in criticism, and enthusiastic in compliments.
  • Interacts with members and guests regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues, Provides input and feedback while responding to problems and reports to Pool Board of Directors.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

  • 16 years old by May 31st of the current year.
  • One(1) season of experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor
  • Must possess the following certifications, with expiration dates beyond August 31st of the current year:
  • American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer
  • American Red Cross Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Basic Swim Instructor (BSI)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good with children

Shift Requirements

  • Lifeguard staff are expected to report to a minimum of four (4) shifts on average per week, including at least 1 weekend/holiday shift per week. Open hours vary by season and day of the week, with the season expected to run from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through the Sunday after Labor Day.

Job Type: Seasonal

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
