What are the responsibilities and job description for the Logistics Manager position at Sukup Manufacturing?

This individual will oversee all aspects pertaining to the logistics of all Company business. Will oversee the Distribution Centers including processing and tracking customer orders, coordinating shipping and receiving schedules. They will assess employee and departmental performance and develop plans for change and/or improvement when needed.

Essential Job Requirements:

Operational Management:
  • Oversee daily distribution center operations, including shipping, receiving, and inventory management
  • Daily collaboration with supply chain team regarding inbound freight needs
  • Develop and implement efficient processes to optimize the flow of goods and minimize operational costs
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, ensuring accurate stock counts and timely replenishment.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with third-party carriers and transportation providers. Evaluate carrier performance and seek opportunities for improvement and cost savings.
  • Develops the logistics facility to provide a variety of services including warehousing, distribution, full-service transportation, materials management, and fulfillment services
Team Leadership:
  • Manage and mentor a team of employees, including hiring, training, scheduling, and conducting performance reviews
  • Manage all aspects of the Distribution Centers, Warehouses, Fleet, and Loading Teams
  • Foster a positive work environment, providing guidance and support to ensure team productivity and morale
  • Address and resolve employee issues and conflicts in a timely manner
Budget and Financial Oversight:
  • Develop and manage the distribution center budget, tracking expenses and ensuring financial targets are met
  • Analyze financial data and operational metrics to identify areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities
Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, maintaining a safe working environment for all employees
  • Schedule and conduct regular safety audits and training programs to reinforce safety practices
Process Improvement:
  • Implement and oversee 5S initiatives to enhance warehouse organization and operational efficiency
  • Develop and track performance metrics, analyzing data to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Gathers needed information on and understanding of customer demands; meets specific needs for transloading, just-in-time shipping, inventory management, distribution, and fulfillment
  • Identifies problems and inefficiencies in logistics processes; presents and implements enhancements and solutions to address these issues
  • Maintains current knowledge of logistics and technology developments and trends; recommends and implements improvements based on this knowledge to provide more efficient service to clients
Maintenance and Facilities Management:
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of the distribution center’s building, property, and fleet
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers to ensure timely and effective maintenance services
Customer Service and Communication:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding distribution center operations
  • Address customer inquiries and issues related to order fulfillment and delivery in a professional manner
  • Builds and maintains relationships with customers to identify opportunities for new services and further expansion of logistics facility
Additional Duties:
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making to support long-term operational goals.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by senior management in support of company function

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Smartsheet

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Background in Business Administration or Management preferred or five or more years’ related experience
  • Strong leadership aptitude including excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize is essential
  • Outstanding customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally engaging in conflict resolution skills
  • Travel will be a requirement of the position, to successfully manage and engage with Distribution Center staff
  • Able to maintain accountability and perform with a high degree of professionalism
