What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assembler position at Sulzer USA Inc.?

Position Summary:

Under indirect supervision and following JWCE’s Standard Operating and Safety Procedures, the Mechanical Assembler performs a variety of repetitive and low complexity assembly operations associated with the manufacturing of JWCE’s family of products and equipment. Assembly process may include fitting, mounting, aligning, adjusting, electrical connecting, fit-and-function testing, mechanical testing, repairing, troubleshooting, and diagnosing, as well as training of entry level assemblers.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses small hand and power tools (air grinders, torque wrenches, and general tools) to assemble equipment
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, and written instructions on Customer Sales Orders to assemble parts or equipment per customer specifications
  • Checks and confirms material lists to ensure complete kits have been received from stockroom, verifying that parts pulled adhere to product drawings and written specifications, and promptly informs any discrepancies to supervisor
  • Verifies functionality and alignment of all components and promptly reports any faulty components to supervisor
  • Cleans and lubricates components parts prior to assembly as prescribed in drawings and assembly instructions
  • Builds seal assemblies and spare part assemblies following sales and production order requirements
  • Ensures maximum protection of critical seal parts and report any contamination or potential damage to seal areas and seal components
  • Connects and tests electrical motors following provided diagrams and strictly adhering to Safety Protocols
  • Performs Mechanical product tests to ensure a defect-free and high-quality finished product in adherence to product design and customer specifications
  • Verifies that all paperwork associated with the order is completed and filled out correctly
  • Complies with policies, procedures and Safety, Health, and Environmental regulatory requirements
  • Maintains a clean/organized work area to facilitate assembly functions in the Safest environment possible
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Experience, Education, & Skills:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Desirable: Associates Degree or equivalent Technical Certificate

  • 1-2 years’ experience assembling products in and industrial, Heavy Equipment Environment
  • Ability to use small tools, power tools, air tools, hoists, forklifts, hydraulic press, and wire, disconnect and work with medium voltage machines
  • Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted
  • Able to drive a forklift and use electrical hoisting equipment
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly diagrams, production, and sales orders

Safety and 5S: No Accidents, incidents, or unsafe conditions in his workstation or immediate area; 5S activities up to date; Quality: Completes orders with 100% First Pass Yield; Delivery: Completes 100% of orders according to schedule; Inventory: Monitors and reports on his consumable items such as cables, connectors, Teflon or electric tape, grease, lubricants and all other supplies required to ensure no stockouts; Productivity: Completes work and promptly resolves issues found from upstream processes
