POSITION DESCRIPTION

Certified Medical Assistant (60312)

DEPARTMENT:
Rural Health Center

REPORTS TO:
Manager/Director

FLSA STATUS:
Non-Exempt

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION,

CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.

High school
diploma or equivalent.

2.

Graduate of a Medical Assistant
Program.

3.

Current National Certification as CMA.

4.

Obtain certification in Basic Life
Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
1.

One (1) year of experience in a
medical office setting preferred.

CORE
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The
statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work
being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not

1.

Admits
patients to the practice and demonstrates technical competences in the
practice including but not limited to taking and recording of vitals and
assisting physician as needed in the clinical area.

2.

Schedules
outpatient diagnostic procedures.

3.

Processes
new prescriptions and renewals for prescriptions by reviewing patient chart
with respect to medication refill,

4.

Demonstrates
high standards in customer service and teamwork.

5.

Ensures
compliance by staff to hospital, governmental and insurance regulations.

6.

Exercises proper
stewardship through the appropriate use of supplies, equipment, and time.

7.

Follows
hospital, state and federal guidelines for ensuring safe environment for
workers, patients and public.

8.

Communicates and
interacts with clients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and
hospital staff and the public in general in a manner that demonstrates
professionalism and concern for the individuals' need(s).

9.

Remains current
and responsive to changes in healthcare delivery, standards established by
professional organizations, regulatory and accrediting bodies and the needs
of the organization.

10.

Participates in the processes to
assess and improve the services provided and compliance with regulatory
requirements. Reports results
assessment and improvement processes to the appropriate administrative
levels.

11.

Educates patient on the procedure and
preparation for such studies.

12.

Verifies insurance, obtain
precertifications or prior authorization, and generate referrals.

13.

Forwards medical records as needed.

PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS: The

Ability to
bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking
for an 8-10 hour shift

2.

Must meet
Department of Labors MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting
up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force
frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).

SKILLS

AND ABILITIES:

Ability to make sound decisions.

perform a variety of work assignments in an accurate manner, work
independently, demonstrate good communications skill, and computer
competency.

4.

Use a
computer keyboard, monitor and mouse. Answer telephones and transcribe
messages.

8.

Knowledge and
experience with medical terminology.
