What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Supervisor position at Summit Companies?
Summit Companies is comprised of multiple subsidiaries within the United States. As a shared service, the Human Resources department, including Payroll, provides support to each subsidiary for service delivery.
Ideal application will have experience using and setting up payroll platforms including and not limited to ADP and UKG serving over 1,000 personnel in multi-state, union, and multi-subsidiary organizations.
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for accurately researching and reporting payroll discrepancies, oversee overall payroll process, provide insight for process improvement, and work to ensure each employee is accurately paid within the posted pay frequencies and dates.
This position reports directly to Compensation and Benefits Manager, and directly oversees a team of up to 6.
Minimum Qualifications
- Accounting certificate, diploma, or degree, required
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or similar, preferred
- 2 years of performing payroll in the Construction or Contracting industries
- 3 years processing payroll, taxes, benefits, and union fringes
- 2 years reporting certified payroll to proper agencies
- Must be able to clear and maintain companies safety policies including pre-employment requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervisor payroll processes and ensure accurate and timely processing and reporting.
- Review and provide back up for certified payroll process including payment to the proper agency as determined by contractual or otherwise required demands.
- Communicate necessary remedies for inaccurately tracked or recorded time.
- Collaborate with management and payroll professionals on payroll documentation for accounts requiring certified payrolls.
- Understand union fringes and calculations
- Review and analyze job costing and correct payroll classifications and requirements.
- Ensure compliance on filing and reports about payroll
- Maintain compliance of labor laws and union CBA rules to ensure correct employee compensation.
- Abide by chain of command when and if there are conflicts in reporting and job requirements.
- Research errors and make recommendations for repetitive issues.
- Collaborate with the Payroll Manager and other Leadership on benefits, compensation, and HR related items in the support of payroll changes.
Success Factors
- Proven history of discretion in handling confidential information
- Experience with ADP and/or Timberline (Sage), preferred
- Comfort working within Microsoft Office
- Ability to prioritize and communicate as a collaborator
- Exceptionally well-developed people skills
