What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Technician position at SummitRidge Hospital?
The Mental Health Technician carry out a variety of direct and indirect nursing patient care activities and tasks which support the maintenance of the therapeutic milieu. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) will assist with admission of patients to the unit. Search patient belongings upon admission and collects those items of potential self-harm per unit policy. Orient patient to unit environment as appropriate to patient's condition. Ensure that patients have all personal belongings and escorts patients safely out of Hospital at time of discharge. Render quality patient care as evidenced by proficient completion of: -Taking and recording vital signs -Measuring and recording intake and output -Weighing patients -Keeping information boards current regarding patient observation levels, lithium levels, lab tests, etc. -Observes assigned patients for the ordered observation level and reports any changes in condition, i.e., changes in vital signs, emotional status, color, urinary output, etc., to the assigned nurse, records appropriate information in patient's charts. -Actively participates in unit milieu program by facilitating/co-facilitating patient groups and by assisting patients in structured activities (recreational and/or educational). Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff and is knowledgeable about policies & procedures regarding: -Medical emergencies, fire plan, disaster plans, and non-medical emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS or BA degree in psychology, social work or related field with one year inpatient experience in mental health OR
- Three (3) years experience in mental health care/social service may be substituted for or considered in lieu of degree.
- Skilled in effective verbal and written communications, interviewing, and counseling
