What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Practitioner (NP) position at SUN Behavioral Kentucky?
Position Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be employed in the admissions department with the potential of additional admitting/attending responsibilities. The responsibilities in the admitting department include:
- Review clinical information from the intake clinicians to determine the level of care needed by the patient. At times, this employee may be asked to conduct the Intake Assessment.
- When needed, meet with the patient to collect any additional collateral needed to make a level of care determination.
- Once the level of care determination is made, complete admission medication reconciliation with the patient utilizing the electronic health record.
- Provide admitting orders to the Inpatient level of care, utilizing the electronic health record. This includes utilizing the admission order set as well as determining the current home medications that may need to be ordered or held.
- Review potentially medically unstable patients to determine the need for further medical evaluation.
- When needed assist the intake clinician in conducting a safety screening for contraband and wounds.
- This employee will require exceptional assessment, communication and interaction skills to facilitate the highest quality patient care and experience.
Education
- Required: Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. Licensed with the State Board of Nursing in state of employment. DEA number. CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification.
- Maintains education and development appropriate for position.
- May substitute experience for education
Experience
- Preferred: One (1) year of experience in a behavioral healthcare setting for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and One (1) year of experience for Nurse Practitioners that oversee the medical status of the patient.
