Job Title: Cook Highlands Dining
Location: 3935 Sunnyside Drive Harrisonburg VA 22801; Highlands
Hours: 11am-8pm Monday-Friday, Every other Weekend required.
Position Overview & General Responsibilities:
Under the direction of our Executive Chef, responsibilities include daily food prep, line cooking dinner entrees, plating and garnishing skills, expediting, buffets with carving station, support all general food service operation. Sunnyside’s “The Highlands” offers a Country Club like environment serving 70-100 guests per evening 4:30p to 7:00p. No late nights, every other weekend off!
- Set-up and stock stations as needed with necessary supplies.
- Prepare food or ensured that food that has been prepared and is ready to serve at resident meal times and served at the proper temperature.
- Cook menu items in cooperation with rest of the kitchen staff.
- Food preparation for service i.e. chopping vegetables, preparing meat, soups and sauces.
- Keep all food preparation and service areas clean and sanitized.
- Report directly to and follow instructions of the Executive Chef.
- Empty trash receptacles and take to trash bin as needed.
- Operate dishwasher. Clean and sanitize dishes and utensils.
- Operate equipment including, but not limited to, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, griddle, toaster in order to perform job duties.
- Stock, remove, cover and store all foods and condiments in units. Label and date all food items. Discard all food items as required under regulations.
- Stock food that has been delivered using First In, First Out method. Check items labeled by the end of the shift. Checks dates and expiration dates on all stock.
- Store cleaning chemicals and sanitizing solutions in proper location.
- Assist in training new employees and help them learn position.
- Work at special functions as assigned.
- Demonstrate dependability, reliability and punctuality. Report to work when schedule, ready to work.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Prior cooking experience in restaurant/dining field is preferred.
- Serve Safe Certification or ability to obtain.
- Ability to process information accurately, make appropriate decisions and take appropriate action based upon the information available.
- Ability to read and interpret recipes, double/triple for quantity needed.
- Time management skills; ability to meet deadlines and varying volumes of service.
- Multi-tasking skills; ability to handle prep work, various timelines, recipes, delivery schedules, etc.
- Strong verbal communication skills; ability to speak with appropriate grammar.
- Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals.
Physical & Environmental Considerations:
This job operates indoors in a general kitchen and dining room environment with varying floor surfaces. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to routinely sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 30 lbs or less and occasionally more than 40 lbs. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures. General hazards related to operation of kitchen equipment as well as exposure to sanitizing and cleaning chemicals and wet floor surfaces which require slip-resistant shoes. Minimal hazards if universal precautions are followed.
