REGISTERED MEDICATION AIDE- Catered Living/Clinic-Daylight

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Registered Medication Aide is to   assist Catered Living residents in administration of various medications and   treatments. The RMA will also fill in under the supervision of the Clinical   Nurse Supervisor for certain clinical duties within their scope of practice.

Qualifications:

· Must have completed 80-hour certification   courses in Geriatric Nursing or is presently enrolled.

· Must have passed Virginia NACEP test after   completion of 80-hour certification course.

· Must have current Nursing Assistant license   through Virginia Board of Nursing.

· Must have current Medication Aide license   through Virginia Board of Nursing.

· Must have or be willing to obtain CPR and   First Aid certification.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to work with confidential information   and maintain its integrity.

· Ability to multi-task while maintaining   attention to detail and have good organizational skills.

· Ability to work in stressful environment and   deal with medical emergency situations.

· Strong customer service skills; maintain a   hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals.

Requirements

· Understand implications of resident’s rights regarding medication, treatment decisions, and confidentiality.

· Works in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Supervisor in regards to responding/recognizing emergencies for Catered Living and Independent Living maintaining composure and according to policies. 

· Provides personal care to each Catered Living resident per Assisted Living guidelines.

· Recognize changes in resident medical conditions and relays relevant information to appropriate medical personnel timely.

· Know and interpret terminology correctly to administer medications accurately.

· Know classification of each medication administered and answer questions from residents regarding the need for the medication. Refer to Health Care Charge Nurse when unable to provide answer.

· Use aseptic technique to accurately measure/pour/administer medications/instillations/treatments.

· Accurately administer and/or assist resident with medication/instillations/treatments via oral, rectal, vaginal, topical, ophthalmic, and nasal methods.

· Document all medications administered, medications refused, and medication errors in appropriate records. Informs Director of Health Services of all medication errors and complete incident report.

· Store and secure all medications per regulations. Medication cart must be locked while unattended.

· Communicate clearly and concisely when discussing medications with physicians, nurses, residents and others.

· Use the following nursing equipment safely and effectively: blood pressure cuff, thermometer, oxygen systems, alarm systems, mechanical lifts, etc.

· Operate the clinic, under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Supervisor, for certain clinical duties within their scope of practice.

· Assist the Nurse Management team with administrative duties such as, but not limited to:

-Input documentation into PCC for Nurse Managers

-TB Screening data entry

-Organizing clinics for IL residents

-Communicating with residents of upcoming clinics

· Maintain clean, organized and orderly work areas.

· Maintain any appropriate licensure requirements as required by company policies, Federal/State Regulations and/or outlined above in the qualifications section.

· Adhere to all company policies and procedures. 

· Attend all in-services, training and meetings as required by company policies and Federal/State Regulations.

· Demonstrate a commitment to safety by following safety rules and guidelines; follow good housekeeping practices, take proper care of equipment and perform job duties and responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner. Uses chemicals safely and appropriately.

· Demonstrate dependability, reliability and punctuality. Report to work when schedule, ready to work.
