Job Summary:
SunOpta is seeking a seasoned HR Manager for its sparkly new, high-tech Midlothian, Texas plant. This plant is a key player for our future growth plans and will manufacture plant-based milks, teas, and broths, to start. This HR leader is responsible for:
1. Building trusted business partner relationships with the plant leadership team and the employee base
2. Assessing and taking actions to drive a healthy and inclusive culture
3. Hiring, development & retention of top talent for today and tomorrow’s needs at the plant
4. Strong execution of HR programs, policies, performance management, employee relations and practices so that quality objectives and deadlines are met successfully
Essential Functions of the Job:
Approximately; 75% of the work is performed in an office environment.25% of work involves being in the manufacturing environment.
Work location: onsite at the plant M-F, typically first shift hours, with occasional work from home as approved; occasional flexibility required to be around for shift-change announcements or investigations.

Essential Functions of the Job:
- Effective recruitment and onboarding to staff the plant for startup, as well as ongoing recruitment and retention efforts.
- Provide trends and diagnosis input to business leaders as well as development of strategies and action plans that support the culture, company direction, and the growth needs of the business and employees; more specifically, the organizational health and effectiveness of the leadership team, culture & inclusion and the hiring, development and performance of talent in the organization.
- Work collaboratively with internal clients to develop timely programs and tools to drive business goals; provides feedback on implementation and utilization of tools to ensure flawless execution; responsible for representing the client's needs.
- Ensure compliance of all employment/labor laws through programs, practices, policies, investigations, training, and actions.
- Ensure that performance assessments are calibrated with department and business results.
- Provide expert advice, coaching, and counsel to leaders and employees on HR programs, policy and procedures, employment/labor laws, conflict resolution, change management, diversity, and organizational development and design to promote a fair and equitable work environment.
- Respond to employee concerns around performance management, improvement, harassment, discrimination, misconduct, employee safety, teamwork, etc.
- Maintain current and complete understanding of Federal and State laws including case law and regulations such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, NLRA, etc.; protects company's interests by ensuring all legal requirements for equal employment and compliance are met by keeping informed of changes in these areas and by implementing the necessary practices/programs to meet these changes.
- Supervise 2 temporary HR Generalist/Recruiters and one temporary HR Assistant (during ramp up period). An HR Assistant FTE is in the budget request for next year.
- Minimum Associate Degree in Human Resources, Business or Related Field
- 8 years of related Human Resources experience (specialty or generalist, or combination)
- Experience in a manufacturing setting
- Experience coaching and mentoring others, influencing without authority
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Bachelors, Masters, or HR certifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite and payroll systems
- Food and Beverage or other regulated industry manufacturing environment experience
- 8 experience as a strong HR Generalist or manager with an emphasis in employee relations and culture.
- Experience facilitating conversations with groups of people.
- Ceridian Dayforce HRIS/ATS combo knowledge is a plus.
- Experience managing people is a plus.
- Outstanding service orientation; sense of urgency; high-level of personal integrity.
- Ability to work well under pressure and flexible in adapting and responding to changing situations.
- Courageous, creative, scrappy problem solver that leads with strong listening skills, seeks to be a consultative partner and is solutions oriented.
- Ability to work independently, but a strong effective team player; commitment to results; superior organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - ability to present, train, influence, and negotiate.
- Strong interpersonal and business partnering skills along with project management and program development skills; effective partnering with stakeholders to achieve success in attracting and retaining the best talent.
- Travel Expectation: Up to 10%.
