What are the responsibilities and job description for the MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN position at SUNRISE SERVICES INC?

General ResponsibilitiesProvide services to ECS Program clients. Provide intensive 1-1 interventions and supports to problem-solve and facilitate successful stabilization of clients residing in ECS approved facilities. Provide consultation and training to residential provider staff to create and or stabilize successful community placements. Coordinate client treatment and effective supports with client’s prescriber and others involved in client’s care and needs including other MH Providers, DSHS, hospital staff, residential providers, family members etc. 

Essential Functions: (Tasks, Responsibilities, and Competencies.  May not include all duties of this job)  

  • Assess client need, risk factors and barriers to community placement at referral 
  • Identify and record baseline presentation of ‘challenging behaviors’ at referral and track progress during service delivery 
  • Identify existing services and supports (informal and formal) involved with client at time of referral.  Seek to identify most appropriate role and input to compliment and extend existing service provision in the interest of facilitating a successful community placement. 
  • Work in conjunction with existing mental health providers when present – seek to clarify and agree complimentary role to meet clients’ needs and facilitate successful community placement. 
  • Create effective client specific positive behavior support plans / Individual support plans to be utilized by clients and residential providers in community settings.  Monitor use of the plans and provide trainings and consultation as needed to ensure effective use of the plan.  Update and modify plans as needed. 
  • Provide 1-1/group training as needed to residential providers, family members or other professionals involved in a clients’ care, in the interest of effective implementation of positive behavior supports. 
  • Respond to out of hours requests for crisis intervention and consultation as needed. 
  • Coordinate services with community agencies such as DSHS, doctors, hospital staff, discharge planners, other MH Providers, courts, Day Services, Home Care agencies, Employment Support agencies, residential providers etc.  
  • In coordination with community agencies and professionals, provide mental health services as appropriate including: direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention; consultation/liaison with government and community agencies, hospitals, and other programs; community education, development, coordination and prevention/intervention programs; and program development and evaluation. 
  • Provide clinical assessment and treatment to clients as specified in each client’s individual treatment plan.  Services may include, but are not limited to: evidence-based practices, treatment planning, individual and/or group therapy including DBT and cognitive/ behavioral, and crisis planning and stabilization. 
  • Consult existing clinical staff and medication management services. 
  • Provide timely and accurate compliance with all required and appropriate charting and coding as required by regulatory organizations such as Medicare, Medicaid, Home and Community Services, etc. 
  • Comply with involuntary treatment admission (ITA) requirements as appropriate and/or coordinate least restrictive order (LRO) services if needed.  Notify CDMHPs, write affidavits, and serve as a witness in court when involuntary treatment is indicated if needed – establish and clarify involvement if an existing MH Provider is also working with client.  Continue to testify on client’s behalf for the duration that Involuntary Treatment is indicated (at the end of 72 hours, 14 days, 90 days, etc.) if needed/appropriate. 
  • Monitor compliance with LRO (Least Restrictive Order) as needed. 
  • Seek continuance when indicated. o Complete all required documentation in a timely and thorough manner consistent with approved practices, policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain all on-going licensing and certification requirements for this position and supply Sunrise proof of the same. 
  • Assists and advocates for the client in the following areas as needed (working in partnership with existing providers where present and identifying and clarifying establishing role expectations to compliment and extend existing services):
  • Support in all areas including basic needs, crisis, employment, and ethnic/cultural support, financial, physical, and psychiatric support.

Treatment Services  

  • Utilize solution-focused and cognitive behavioral therapy and group process, provide this treatment, and share this knowledge with other staff. 
  • Provide harm minimization interventions as appropriate 
  • Communicate with consumers and family members to obtain information regarding consumer’s needs and objectives, interests, skills, and support systems. 
  • Develop consumer-focused, goal-oriented treatment plans, which address the specific needs of the consumer.  Consult with existing MH providers when present to compliment and extend existing treatment plans. 
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness and revise care plans regularly. 
  • Maintain consumer records in keeping with agency, county, and state guidelines. 
  • Utilize clinical supervision for clarification of questions and concerns, support, understanding role expectations, feedback and accountability. 
  • Develop expertise in solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy and group process, provide this treatment, and share this knowledge with other staff. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in this job description or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis. 

Essential Requirements: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience)  

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Counseling or one of the Social Sciences or a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Social Sciences with two years of experience. 
  • Experience: Clinicians must be certified as a Mental Health Professional (MHP), Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), or Geriatric Mental Health Specialist (GMHS). 
  • Clinicians who are not currently an MHP, BCBA or GMHS must work under the supervision of a MHP, BCBA, or GMHS and must have at least a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years' experience working with adults who have exceptional long-term care needs due to a combination of medical and behavioral needs.   
  • Licensure/Certification: Clinicians must be certified as a Mental Health Professional (MHP), Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), or Geriatric Mental Health Specialist (GMHS) and hold an appropriate license in the state of Washington.   
  • Other Considerations: 
  • DSHS background clearance required. o
  • Current valid Washington State driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of insurance. 

Compensation: 

  • $24 - $26/hour (wages depend on applicable experience)
