Job Title: Parent Infant Advisor 
Position Status: Exempt
Reports To: Director of the Parent Infant Program

This position requires knowledge and expertise in the areas of hearing loss (amplification systems, cochlear implants, listening/language/speech development), educational approaches, coaching and counseling, child development and public relations.

Essential job duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Conduct routine based therapy sessions with each family (This includes parent coaching, support counseling and education regarding hearing loss, listening and spoken language, behavior management and child development.)
  • Create therapy lesson plans, to include carry over strategies and skills for the home environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in service delivery to include: Teletherapy; center-based and home visits.
  • Keep accurate and timely records and reports on each family enrolled (this includes weekly session summaries, biannual assessments, periodic video recordings, LENA recordings and other evaluations as deemed appropriate for each family.)
  •  Meet biannually or as needed with the Parent Infant Program Director to review work.
  • Assist the staff audiologists, when requested, in
  • a)  aided and unaided hearing evaluations of children on your caseload
  • b)  cochlear implant speech processor MAPping sessions
  • Meet with audiologists regularly to schedule evaluations and to network regarding any concerns.
  • Meet with SLPs regularly to schedule evaluations and to network regarding any concerns.
  • Collaborate with local Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Therapists
  •  Inform families of financial support at the local, state, and national levels and assist them in completing the various application processes.
  • Write final reports or program summaries as families transition to another agency, program, or preschool.
  • Keep abreast of current research and new information in the field of early childhood development and audiology, specifically as it relates to early brain development research, parenting and care-giving, aural habilitation, and language and speech facilitation.
  • Supervise graduate students who are seeking EI experience and mentor LSLS candidates as assigned.
  • Create and participate with the Parent Infant team in professional presentations.
  • Facilitate Parent Group Meetings on a rotating basis.
  •  Attend all required school/program meetings.
  • Be able to work two late afternoons per week when needed by the families.

Education and/or Experience: Candidate must have a Master’s Degree in Deaf Education
 
Special Knowledge/Skills: Candidate must have training or experience with Listening and Spoken Language practices.
 
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Valid Texas teaching certificate. Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT or AV Ed.) certification is preferred. If not currently certified, certification must be obtained within 5 years of hire date. 
 
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; hear and have good vision. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 0-30 lbs.
