Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Solar Service Technician to join our team in New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with residential and/or commercial solar PV systems, a strong understanding of electrical principles, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service. This role involves field work, troubleshooting complex issues, and implementing effective repairs to restore solar systems to optimal operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed inspections of existing solar PV systems to assess their condition and identify potential issues.
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostic testing using specialized equipment (e.g., IV curve tracers, multimeters, thermal cameras, string testers) to pinpoint causes of system underperformance or failure.
- Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of solar PV system components, including but not limited to:
- PV modules (panels)
- Inverters (string, microinverters, central)
- DC and AC wiring
- Mounting hardware and racking
- Monitoring systems
- Balance of System (BOS) components
- Optimizers
- Replace faulty equipment and components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
- Perform routine maintenance and preventative service to enhance system efficiency and longevity.
- Document all findings, diagnostics, repairs, and component replacements accurately and thoroughly in service reports and company databases.
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing clear explanations of system issues, proposed solutions, and completed work.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and company policies, especially when working at heights, with electrical systems, and in various weather conditions.
- Collaborate with the service coordination team to schedule appointments, manage service tickets, and ensure efficient workflow.
- Maintain service vehicle, tools, and equipment in excellent working condition.
- Continuously learn and stay updated on new solar technologies, repair techniques, and industry standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on experience in the solar PV industry, specifically in service, maintenance, or troubleshooting roles.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair issues on string inverters, microinverters, and optimizers.
- Strong understanding of residential and/or commercial electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, grounding, and overcurrent protection.
- Familiarity with various solar PV system architectures and components.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, clamp meters, and irradiance meters.
- Comfortable working at heights (on rooftops, ladders) and in various outdoor weather conditions common to New Jersey.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical clients.
- Valid Arizona driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 30 certification
- Experience with solar monitoring platforms (e.g., Enphase Enlighten, SolarEdge Monitoring, Tigo, Generac PWRview).
- Prior experience with battery storage systems is a plus.
- Associate's degree or vocational training in renewable energy, electrical technology, or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to work in various positions, including kneeling, bending, squatting, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, including extreme heat.
- Comfortable working at heights and on sloped roofs.
