Position Referral Specialist
FLSA Status Hourly Non-Exempt
Reports to Medical Reception Supervisor
Reporters 0
Shift 9:30am to 6pm
Lunch 30 minutes
Wage: $13.00/hr
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Medical Terminology Knowledge required
Medical Experience required
Responsibilities:
- Operate the telephone to call, answer, screen, or forward calls, providing information, taking messages, or scheduling appointments.
- Send and communicate referral status and information to patients and outside providers.
- Knowledge of insurance preferences when sending patients to outside providers to attempt to keep patients in their insurance network.
- Greet persons entering or leaving the establishment.
- Schedule appointments and maintain and update appointment calendars.
- Hear and resolve complaints from patients or other facilities.
- Transmit information or documents to customers, using a computer, mail, or facsimile machine.
- Analyze data to determine answers to questions from customers or members of the public.
- Obtain authorizations per insurance requirements as necessary for outside providers.
- Communicate directly with facility and insurance representatives.

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting of patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
- Requires sitting for extensive periods of time
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
- Requires corrected vision, hearing, and speech within normal ranges
- Requires working under stressful conditions and sometimes irregular hours
- Potential contact with bloodborne pathogens, bodily secretions, etc.
