What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fraud Specialist position at Superior Choice Credit Union?

Role:

The Fraud Specialist is responsible for investigating forgery and theft within members' accounts and transactions on behalf of the credit union. They track and monitor the credit union's transactions and activity that comes through the members' accounts. They will identify and trace any suspicious or high-risk transactions, determine if there is improper activity involved, and determine if there is any risk to the credit union or its members.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Identifies valid and fraudulent charges, sets up fraud files, uses multiple research techniques to resolve issues, reconciles and summarizes fraud losses and communicates with customers to notify of inquiry and problem resolution
  • Conducts investigations of fraudulent activity to ensure minimal loss to the organization and members including: checking & savings accounts, ACH, debit cards, wires and online banking.
  • Coordinates and assist on proposed recovery of losses due to fraudulent activity
  • Document findings in a concise manner for communication to the appropriate internal stakeholders and Senior Management
  • Identifies and recommends new and existing report change requests related to the monitoring process by evaluating trends and needs of individual programs as it relates to the detection and prevention of money laundering and fraud.
  • Adhere to departmental and corporate policies to ensure guidelines are followed and executed in accordance with management's expectations
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Demonstrated experience having difficult/sensitive conversations with members and internal employees; ability to exhibit professionalism under stressful circumstances.

Exhibited effective investigative/analytical skills

Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize to meet daily goals, driven by a sense of urgency for resolution

Proven track record of ensuring department is informed of key operating issues affecting Credit Union or any department

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: One year to three years of similar or related experience. Must have exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges. Preference given to a Certified Fraud Examiner or similar certification.

Education: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.

Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
