About The Position
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is seeking a Deputy Managing Self-Help Attorney to assist the Managing Self-Help Attorney with oversight, management and evaluation of the Court's self-help program. The Deputy Managing Self-Help Attorney oversees multiple Self-Help and Family Law facilitator centers throughout the Court.
A Deputy Managing Self-Help Attorney may only practice law within the scope of their duties as an employee of the Court, and is prohibited by Court policy from any outside practice of law during the course of their employment. This prohibition includes giving legal advice, receiving fees, and/or appearing in any court on behalf of another person.
Key Responsibilities
THIS IS A TELEWORK ELIGIBLE OPPORTUNITY This position may be eligible for partial telework following an initial training period and contingent upon the needs of the Court.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the time of application:
OPTION I: Graduation with a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; member of the California State Bar in good standing -AND- two (2) years of experience supervising the activities and administrative functions of attorneys performing legal services for self-represented litigants for a court or non-profit agency.
OPTION II: Graduation with a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; member of the California State Bar in good standing -AND- seven (7) years of demonstrated experience managing the activities of legal professional staff within a non-court public or private entity.

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants who successfully pass each (and all) recruitment steps will be placed on an eligible list which will remain active for approximately one (1) year and may be invited to participate in a selection interview. Other vacancies may be filled using this list.

Key Responsibilities
- Staff Leadership and Oversight – Lead and manage subordinate supervisors and staff across Self-Help centers. Ensure that operations align with mission-driven goals and performance benchmarks through integrated planning and evaluation.
- Strategic Planning & Program Development –Shape and implement long-range policies, programs, and strategic objectives to meet the evolving needs of self-represented litigants. Contribute to drafting and negotiating policies, including those impacting labor relations.
- Hiring, Training & Staff Development– Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of staff and volunteers. Create hiring standards and training programs that reinforce service excellence and retention of high-performing personnel.
- Community & Legal Aid Collaboration – Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with legal service organizations and community-based partners. Facilitate resource sharing, legislative updates, and procedural collaboration to expand litigant support networks.
- Compliance, Evaluation & Policy Recommendations – Monitor operational compliance with laws, regulations, and Court policies. Review center performance metrics and engage with judicial officers to recommend process enhancements. Ensure staff adhere to best practices.
- Budget & Resource Management – Direct development and oversight of Self-Help program budgets. Align operational plans with Court goals through efficient resource allocation, systems implementation, and performance tracking.
