What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Lathe operator position at Surge?
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Lathe Operator to join our team in a tooling environment focused on precision machining rather than high-volume production. This role involves programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes to manufacture high-precision components based on detailed blueprints and technical specifications. The ideal candidate has strong experience in low-volume, high-precision machining and a proactive approach to equipment maintenance and quality inspection.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes to produce custom precision parts used in tooling applications.
-
Interpret complex technical blueprints, engineering drawings, and design specifications to ensure parts are manufactured to exact requirements.
-
Conduct in-process and final inspections of machined components using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other equipment.
-
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on CNC machines and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal machine performance.
-
Adjust machine settings and tooling as needed to maintain tight tolerances and part quality.
-
Maintain accurate documentation of setups, programs, and inspection results.
-
Collaborate with engineers and toolmakers to refine part designs and manufacturing processes.
-
Ensure compliance with all safety and quality standards in a machining environment.
Requirements:
-
High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in CNC machining preferred.
-
3 years of experience operating CNC lathes in a precision or tooling environment.
-
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
-
Proficiency with precision measurement instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, indicators).
-
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and maintain CNC machinery.
-
Experience working in a tooling, prototype, or custom fabrication setting (not mass production).
-
Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
-
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
