We are seeking an experienced Wastewater Treatment Operator to join our team!
Job Summary:
The Wastewater Treatment Operator operates and maintains wastewater treatment, sludge processing and handling equipment in accordance with government regulations.
No direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Treat and release wastewater and remove solid waste in a timely manner.
- Maintain equipment, including pumps and instruments.
- Certify equipment is calibrated and in proper working order.
- Control equipment and monitor processes that remove or destroy harmful materials, chemicals, and microorganisms from wastewater.
- Run tests to make sure that the processes are working correctly.
- Keep records of water quality and other indicators.
- Operate and monitor the pumps and motors that move water and wastewater through filtration systems.
- Read meters and gauges to make sure that plant equipment is working properly.
- Take samples and send them out for analysis.
- Keep records that document compliance.
- Ensure all records and correspondence are accurate, complete and meet governmental regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all necessary operating supplies are stocked and the wastewater room is fully operational at all times.
- Work safely in accordance with all safety guidelines and procedures.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to all levels of management
- Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to create and interpret bar charts/graphs
- Ability to take precise measurements, calculate figures and amounts, and ensure proper customer specs or send for inspection
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to define issues, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Strong, observational, mechanical, and leadership abilities
- Maintain a valid Grade 4 Industrial License issued by the State of Massachusetts
Desired Qualifications:
- Hazardous waste training
- DOT training
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- 2 years of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of the above
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds as needed, up to 50 pounds on occasions
- Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; bend; kneel; squat; climb stairs; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
