GENERAL :
This position is an integral part of the Saw Filing Department and reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. This position will work in an air conditioned and updated (modern) file room.
This position is also responsible for performing all assigned duties as a member of a flexible work team in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
Preferred candidates will be motivated, positive and energetic and have 1 - 2 years previous experience in the wood remanufacturing sector, in a sawmill, planer mill or with forest products.
The physical demands of the job include, but are not limited to :
FREQUENT standing, grasping with hands, fingers to file saws, manipulate power tools, pushing, pulling and twisting motions, lifting 50 lbs. and up.
CONTINUOUS use of vision needed to ensure saws are filed / tensioned properly, hearing to understand and respond to various equipment sounds, process alarms, radio messages, etc.
RESPONSIBILITY :
Performs duties as assigned, complies with aH safety regulations and practices and follows specific directions. The tasks associated with this position include but are not limited to :
- Maintenance of work place and saw filing safety.
- Achieving production targets.
- Inspecting, maintaining, and calibrating precision equipment.
- Adherence to filing shop quality control standards.
- Troubleshooting and examining saws for defects.
- Management of saw box water and lubrication.
- Ability to work in a team environment or independently with little supervision.
- Experience benching round saws and band saws (e.g. repairing, tensioning, leveling, tipping, sharpening).
- Knowledge of functionality, maintenance, and alignment associated with a Canter, 6 ft. Band Rig, Trim Saw, Gang Saws, Edger's, and Chippers.
- Ability to service and supervise all aspects of saw maintenance for stellite and carbide saws.
- Understanding of preventative maintenance processes related to saw shop and sawmill machinery.
- Technical understanding of the manufacturing and servicing of saws, guides, and chipping knives.
