Overview

Symmons is seeking a Business Development Manager who will educate and drive sales to Owners and Developers, General Contractors and Key Mechanical Plumbing Contractors along with opening doors to new opportunities in assigned territories. The Business Development Manager will develop a sales territory plan to drive specifications and sales of Symmons products through all sales channels. This requires the ability to develop relationships throughout the entire sales cycle. The Business Development Manager will communicate effectively with sales leadership and various team members and agency partners to pursue and close commercial business deals within the hospitality, healthcare, and commercial housing industries.  Role will be based out of the Hartford, Connecticut area but cover the Connecticut, Rhode Island and Western Massachusetts Territory.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively make sales calls to drive projects from origination of specification to installation of product.
  • Maintain current client relationships and identify areas for potential clients.
  • Develop new sales areas and improve sales through various methods.
  • Work with internal and external teams to translate market and customer needs into technical product requirements.
  • Develop understanding of company products and services to educate customers on Symmons products as well as business position and competition to keep business competitive.
  • Effectively roll out new products into the marketplace.
  • Identify top 15 accounts within the territory.
  • Develop account plans for top 15 accounts.
  • Develop strategy to deliver territory sales goal.
  • Report through a cloud-based CRM database.

Qualifications

  • A self-starter who is highly driven to succeed
  • Outgoing and able to effectively connect with prospects
  • Able and willing to work with a high-performing sale team
  • Highly skilled at project management tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills to meet goals and set priorities.
  • Comfortable with selling to a wide range of prospects—from plumbing contractors to architects and owners/developers
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • A problem-solver with a strong desire to serve the customer first.  
  • Bachelor’s degree—preferably in business, engineering, management, or another related area
  • About 5 years of proven sales experience in business or a related area.
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Microsoft Outlook
  • Experience with sales reporting systems or related systems
  • Demonstrated sales skills.
  • The ability to travel by vehicle within territory (limited overnight stays)
