Job Description
The Assistant Vice President assesses and evaluates existing student leadership development and engagement programs on an ongoing basis; researches best practices among peer and aspirational institutions for innovative student programs targeting engagement, connection, and belonging; takes a leadership role in designing and implementing new student-focused programs in the ESE Division; provides recommendations and advice to the SVP and other ESE Division leaders on emerging issues in student affairs and possible responses to the same; represents ESE Division leadership at events and meetings as requested; serves as ESE liaison to other University colleges/schools/divisions/units as directed; assists in crisis/incident planning and response.

Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education counseling or administration. A minimum of 10 years experience in student affairs administration, culminating in the position of Dean of Students or otherwise as Chief Student Affairs Officer.

History of success and progressively responsible levels of responsibility and leadership within Student Affairs in higher education. Experience overseeing a broad range of student programs within higher education is preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications
  • Knowledge of a broad array of student affairs operations, including residence life, student conduct processes, threat assessment and incident response, and student leadership development.
  • A demonstrated commitment to increasing student satisfaction and a sense of inclusion/belonging. Strong commitment to creating a climate in which students of diverse backgrounds, traits and experiences can flourish.

Responsibilities
  • Research/review/evaluate “best practice” programs and initiatives at peer and aspirational institutions and report on the same to the SVP, including making informed recommendations.
  • Take a leadership role in the design/development of new programs and initiatives to aid in student leadership development and create enhanced feelings of connection/belonging/inclusion among students.
  • Provide sound and well-reasoned counsel and advice to the SVP and other senior ESE Division leaders on emerging issues and considerations in student affairs.
  • Represent the SVP and other ESE leadership in meetings and at events when requested and as appropriate to the circumstances.
  • Play a key role in planning for and responding to incidents and crises that impact student life and the institution more broadly and engage on an ongoing basis with DPS leadership on matters of student safety.
