Job Summary: As a Senior Project Controls Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects. Leveraging your expertise in project planning and scheduling, you will provide oversight and guidance to project teams, ensuring they develop accurate and effective schedules that align with project milestones and deliverables. Your strategic insights will be invaluable in monitoring progress, identifying critical paths, and facilitating successful project execution within budget and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning Oversight & Guidance:
- Provide expert oversight in developing comprehensive project schedules using critical path method (CPM) and advanced scheduling tools.
- Review and validate project schedules to ensure they reflect best practices and effective project execution strategies.
- Support project teams in establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and milestones, ensuring all project phases are logically sequenced.
- Assist teams in resolving scheduling conflicts and offer optimization recommendations.
Monitoring & Strategic Analysis:
- Ensure quality in schedule development, confirming compliance with Primavera P6 (P6) schedule quality metrics.
- Analyze quantitative and cost information to forecast trends and provide strategic recommendations for project execution.
- Identify schedule constraints and oversee mitigation strategies to address potential risks.
- Conduct "what-if" scenario planning and recommend corrective actions based on impacts assessed.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate effectively with project teams to ensure well-integrated project schedules.
- Provide insights to project managers, stakeholders, and clients on forecasted schedule performance and improvements.
- Facilitate productive schedule review meetings, supporting teams in discussing progress, addressing challenges, and developing mitigation strategies.
- Guide teams in establishing cross-system and cross-project logic ties within schedules.
Process Improvement & Reporting:
- Mentor project planners to enhance scheduling accuracy and overall project planning effectiveness.
- Lead lessons learned reviews to refine best practices for future planning efforts and project execution.
- Oversee the accuracy of reporting and provide guidance on best practices for reliable schedule data.
- Advise on resource loading, leveling, and bulk commodity planning while supporting the use of computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., Power BI) to track work plans and asset histories.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 18 years of direct experience in project planning and scheduling in an EPC environment.
- Strong understanding of project management principles and scheduling methodologies, particularly critical path analysis.
- Proficiency in scheduling software, including Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Exceptional analytical skills for schedule evaluation and strategic guidance.
- Excellent communication and collaboration capabilities with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of engineering and nuclear operations would be an advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated leadership in planning reviews and oversight of complex engineering and construction projects.
Desired Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience in providing oversight within EPC projects.
- Background in engineering or construction management with a specific focus on planning and scheduling guidance.
- Familiarity with generating station systems, equipment, and operational principles.
- Proven ability to mentor project teams in effective schedule development and execution.
