JOB SUMMARYThe Operator performs specified tasks at the facility to meet safety, quality, and efficiency goals while staying in compliance with the policies and procedures of Tactical Cleaning. Safely executes loading and unloading between truck, rail, and storage of various commodities, which may include, not limited to a variety of bulk liquids and dry products and chemicals at an assigned facility.
This position will also be cross trained in all aspects of railcar cleaning and the inspection, care and maintenance of equipment used in the cleaning process
The Operator is responsible for informing the Shop Manager of issues related to their assigned duties.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary by supervisor. DUTIES:
- Maintain a top priority of a clean and safe work environment. This involves ensuring all company guidelines are met and all safety rules are followed when performing duties, including Tactical Cleaning’s Health and Safety Program.
- Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
- Will be responsible for the operation as it relates to transloaders, power washers, steam units, compressors, engines, pumps, valves and other related equipment and misc. tools.
- Daily unloading/loading of materials consisting of a variety of bulk liquid and dry products.
- Clean and inspect railcars for compliance with customer, FRA, AAR and Tactical Cleaning requirements
- Start, stop, and operate engines/pumps within defined operating parameters.
- Maintain proper maintenance and cleaning of all equipment including pumps, sprayers, nozzles, hoses, catch basins, etc.
- Complete checklists as required.
- Maintain clear communication with fellow co-workers and management.
- Dispose of materials properly according to EPA requirements.
- Ensure that permits, pictures, QAQC and all railcar documentation is completed and distributed to all necessary parties.
- Adhere to production schedules and maintaining regular attendance as required by a predetermined work schedule.
- Assist management with supplying information for daily reports and all necessary operational documents in an accurate and timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to climb ladders, tolerate confined spaces and heights, bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs overhead on a consistent basis. This includes working safely around heavy equipment and on top of, under and inside railcars, and railroad tracks.
- Ability and willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
- Willingness and ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, respirators, safety shoes eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, and a variety of protective suits.
- Ability to operate a computer to perform daily work activities, with an understanding of basic computer software (MS Word, MS Excel).
- Ability and willingness to be trained on Hazwoper courses, Confined Spacing, First-Aid, Hazardous Materials, and other required safety and/or OSHA training.
- Knowledge of equipment and tools required to perform safe entry for cleaning (Familiarity with Sandblasting / Power Washing equipment).
- Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Have vision correctable to 20/20 for inspection activities.
- Ability to pass a company required physical examination and drug and alcohol screen.
- Ability to pass a company required respiratory wellness test and respirator fit test.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Availability to work overtime hours.
- Availability to travel approximately 50% - 75% of the time including overnight stays from either mobile or other fixed job sites.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct oversites.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEA High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
A minimum of 6 months of proven successful experience in a transloading and/or freight/tank car experience is preferred; a combination of education and experience will be considered. Experience working with heavy construction, cleaning, and/or repair equipment will be considered.
