Summary
This position serves as the representative for the hospital, both at Tahoe Forest and Incline Village, in the absence of the Directors and Department Heads. This position is responsible for facilitating departmental operations for the assigned shift. In fulfilling this role the position maintains an effective working relationship with the medical staff, hospital administration and nursing service. Provides skilled nursing services required of an RN in the absence of Registered Nurse or Director of Nursing of the Extended Care Center.
This position has the authority and responsibility for taking all reasonable steps to assure that safe and therapeutic patient care is provided on the shift. Ensures that the hospital philosophy is carried out in the provision of quality and cost efficient care for patients and their families by coordinating the activities of the nursing staff, medical staff and other hospital services on the designated shift. Provides the overall leadership and direction for problem identification and resolution for the entire hospital in the absence of the Directors.

Minimum Education/Experience
Associate's Degree - Graduation from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty AND 3 or more years of relevant experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Required:
Ability to use office machines. Demonstrated ability to use word processing and other Microsoft Office programs.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

The purpose is to influence, motivate, interrogate, or control persons or groups. Employee must be skillful in approaching the individual or group in order to obtain the desired effect.
Reasoning Skills

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Communicates effectively with all constituencies: staff, medical staff, patients, families and community.
- Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with Directors and Managers regarding staff concerns and/or issues.
- Intervenes when necessary, provides feedback, and documents issues regarding staff performance.
- Collaborates with Directors and Managers in managing expected quality and productivity measures.
- Analyzes patient care needs and initiates appropriate action consistent with those needs and budgetary guidelines.
- Serves as Clinical Resource person to all departments and is able to function as a staff RN and complete essential duties.
- Makes bed assignment for patients to be admitted based on staffing efficiency of each unit and ability to provide necessary care.
- Coordinates coverage for immediate staffing shortages.
- In the absence of pharmacy, the House Supervisor will facilitate and ensure patient medications are available for nursing staff

- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers - Upon hire
- ACLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Advanced Life Support (ALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum(depending on their previous ACLS certification) - Upon hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Employees that have never been certified must take a live initial AHA certification class. Employees with recently expired certifications will be enrolled in Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI). Certification must be completed within specified time frame - Within 6 months of hire into job
- BLS/ACLS/PALS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certification) - Within 6 months of hire into job
Required:
- Three years' previous experience in Intensive Care Unit and/or Emergency Department.
- Demonstrated competence in general nursing skills.
- Two years' previous leadership experience.
- Five years’ experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
