Clinic Assistant Position
Reports to: Veterinarian Position Duration: Part Time: 16-24 hrs/week
Surgery days/hours are generally 9am-5pm Tue, Wed, Thu.
Job Summary:
The Clinic Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the veterinary team by ensuring a clean and efficient clinic environment. This position is responsible for maintaining surgical supplies, ensuring the clinic stays organized, and providing hands-on support with animal care during procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor animals post-surgery, assist with extubation when necessary, and ensure proper recovery protocols are followed.
- Clean and disinfect surgical instruments, intubation tubes, and prepare surgical packs for autoclaving, ensuring proper sterilization before use.
- Clean and sanitize clinic areas, including sweeping floors, wiping down counters, and cleaning animal runs and cages as needed throughout the day.
- Manage inventory and stock essential supplies, including syringes, needles, cleaning materials, and surgical drapes, ensuring items are readily available and properly organized.
- Wash, fold, and organize laundry, ensuring clean linens are stored in designated areas.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Previous experience in clinic cleaning and/or animal care preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, scrubbing, mopping, walking, reaching, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lbs (with reasonable accommodation).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and ability to follow established instructions and protocols.
- Ability to manage time effectively, work independently, and handle fluctuating priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works in a high-volume surgery environment, requiring the ability to manage multiple procedures and a fast-paced setting.
- Frequent exposure to high noise levels, industrial cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, and animal waste.
- Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, bites, and scratches from animals.
- Safety procedures must always be strictly adhered to ensure personal and animal safety.
- Requires working as a key member of the surgical team, contributing to the overall flow and success of the procedures.
