Seeking a Network Security Engineer to join its Global Cyber Defense team, focusing on the perimeter defense layer of the firm’s infrastructure. In this position, you will manage, engineer, and support mission-critical security technologies across email gateways, web proxies, and firewalls. This role is heavily operations-focused, with strong collaboration required across infrastructure, incident response, and threat intelligence teams.
While not a SOC or incident responder role, you will work closely with those functions to maintain and improve perimeter security, investigate issues, and support daily service reliability across the firm’s hybrid environment. This is a mid-to-senior-level engineering position, ideal for candidates with broad infrastructure experience and a strong background in network security.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, configure, and engineer perimeter defense systems:
Email Security Gateways (e.g., Proofpoint)
Web Proxies
Next-Generation Firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto)
Review, triage, and respond to operational issues and support tickets
Write and maintain email and firewall rules (e.g., allowlisting, port access, blocklists)
Provide consultative support to project teams around firewall and proxy configurations
Evaluate and implement change requests while identifying network/security risks
Use SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk) to analyze logs, troubleshoot issues, and support investigations
Collaborate with internal engineering and infrastructure teams, as well as external vendors
Participate in meetings with various technical and business stakeholders
Participate in a rotational on-call schedule (approximately every 5 weeks)
Required Skills & Experience:
5–10 years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 4 years focused on network or perimeter security
Hands-on experience with firewalls, email security gateways, and proxies
Strong technical understanding of:
IPv4, TCP/IP, low-level networking, TCP/UDP ports
Core infrastructure (networking, OS, identity & access)
Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
Experience supporting operations across multi-team environments
Familiarity with SIEMs like Splunk for operations and troubleshooting
Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with both technical and non-technical teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting perimeter security systems in the financial services industry
Direct experience with Palo Alto Firewalls, Proofpoint, or equivalent tools
Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Professional certifications such as CISSP, PCNSE, or AWS Solutions Architect – Associate
Experience working as part of a global cyber defense or infrastructure operations team
