The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and be responsible for overseeing all accounting and administrative functions. This role will lead a team of 8–9 professionals, as well as manage relationships with external service providers, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial operations. The Controller will play a key role in driving financial reporting, enhancing operational efficiency, and strengthening internal controls to support the company’s ongoing growth.
Key Responsibilities:
The Controller will oversee the accounting and administrative team, managing their day-to-day responsibilities and providing support as needed. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead, develop, and implement the company’s safety program to promote a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment across all job sites.
- Partner with Superintendents and field staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular job site inspections, audits, and investigations of incidents/accidents; provide recommendations and corrective actions.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and serve as point of contact for OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Update and maintain the company Safety Manual, Incident Plans, and subcontractor Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs).
- Chair bi-monthly Safety Committee meetings and provide executive leadership with timely reporting on safety performance, incidents, and claims.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs (OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR/AED, equipment safety, orientations), maintaining complete training records.
- Foster a strong safety culture that integrates risk management, anti-harassment, and anti-discrimination principles across all teams and projects.
- Research industry trends, monitor EMR performance, and recommend initiatives to reduce risk and improve safety outcomes.
- Oversee company equipment safety program, ensuring safe working conditions, functional safety devices, and proper operator training.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience within the construction industry required
- Prior experience working specifically for a General Contractor is essential
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
