What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Operations Supervisor-Airfield position at Tampa International Airport?
Performs duties in airport operations, aviation administration, and facilities management. Primary duties include monitoring of airport facilities, safety programs, security functions, and other operations designed to ensure effective passenger and public services. The main focus of the position is to ensure compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other federal, state, and city regulations under FAA 14 CFR Part 139.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Monitors compliance with the federal and state regulations; supervises development and maintenance of the airport policies/procedures, Airport Certification Manual, Wildlife Hazard Management Plan, Airport Emergency Plan, Airport Security Plan, and Airport Master Plan, etc.
- Assists in the development of procedures for use in event of aircraft accidents, fires, or other emergencies.
- Knowledgeable of and applies procedures per Federal Aviation Advisory Circulars.
- Inspects airport facilities such as runways, buildings, lighting, etc. to determine repairs, replacement, or improvements required.
- Demonstrates effective written & verbal communication and positive public relations with the ability to effectively handle potentially confrontational situations.
- Assists in the enforcement of aircraft parking; monitors and ensures conformance with all applicable regulations and ordinances; initiates corrective action.
- Issues NOTAMS (Notice to Airmen) when required by airport conditions.
- Performs daily, nightly, periodic, and special airfield inspections.
- Responds to airfield operational concerns.
- Responds to issues from the airport tenants and the public.
- Embody the guiding principles of the department as outlined in the TPA Airport Operations “Rules of Our Road”.
- Performs other related duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides indirect supervision of day-to-day activities that occur on the airfield.
- Have the ability to employ soft skills and foster strong and productive relationships within the core working group and across departments and verticals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50-75 pounds.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Must be able to operate a vehicle for extended periods
- Must be able to work on various assignments. Exposed to chemicals, fumes, solvents, machinery, moving objects/vehicles, dust, slippery/uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and excessive noise (amount of exposure varies based on assignment).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 2 years of college coursework in an Aviation related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
- AAAE Airport Certified Employee Airfield Operations (Preferred)
- Valid Driver's License
- Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude them from employment.
- Obtain and maintain position appropriate NIMS & emergency management training.
- Maintain Ramp and Movement Area (MAT) driving privileges

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Shifts are 12hr in length and require a 15min change over between shifts. There are two shifts, a day shift consisting of the hours of 0600 to 1800 and the night shift from 1800 to 0600. There is also a relief shift with the hours of 0700 to 1530, Monday through Friday, which is primarily used to cover vacation requests for the aforementioned shifts. Shifts rotate, allowing all to work each shift. Hours and scheduled days are subject to change and the position is salaried. All who fills this role will be assigned a shift, which will include holidays, and will be required to report back to work during emergencies, urgent situations, special events, and inclement weather.
COMPENSATION
Starting salary is $54,000 per year and up based on experience.
