Job Summary



Job Summary: Incumbent is responsible for implementing TCC’s cultural program activities at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center (MTCVC) to serve the Alaska Native and non-Native community.

Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.


Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Education & Indigenous Learning Manager, job incumbent will:

1. Develop, coordinate and oversee classes, workshops, and events focused on strengthening and sharing Alaska Native cultural traditions in the TCC villages and Fairbanks.

2. Set up and oversee contracts for TCC Cultural Program.

3. Develop opportunities for Alaska Native artists and culture bearers to demonstrate art.

4. Identify, build, and strengthen or enhance partnerships.

5. Implement department’s public relations and marketing strategies to reach stakeholders and targeted markets.

6. Recommend, develop and oversee new programs as needed. Research and make recommendation to discontinue programs if unsuccessful.

7. Work with supervisor to develop and monitor department budget. Prepare financial and narrative reports, purchase requisitions, payment requests, and travel requests.

8. Develop database of Alaska Native artists, musicians, storytellers, and Alaska Native language speakers willing to serve as community resource demonstrators and/or instructors.

9. Contribute to team effort within the TCC Cultural Programs Department, Family Services & Support Division and with MTCVC partners by actively solving problems and maintaining open communications.

Minimum Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, or any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

2. One (1) year staff supervisory experience.

3. Knowledge of Alaska Native lifestyles, culture, arts, language and history.

4. Experience in planning and hosting events including fundraising, and solicitation of grants and donations.

5. Demonstrated ability to develop and advance programs with project management experience with evidence of strong attention to detail.

6. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to achieve organizational goals and objectives.

2. Develop, manage and monitor budgets.

3. Excellent communication skills; oral presentation and public speaking, writing, editing and proofreading skills.

4. Must be a resourceful team player that establishes, strengthens, and maintains effective working relationships with others inside or outside the organization.

5. Ability to systematically develop plans, prioritize and manage resources.

6. Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize a range of personal computer resources and applications including Microsoft Office Programs, Google Calendar. Must be able to identify and respond to internal and external clients by providing excellent customer service.

Supervision:
This position may have supervisory responsibilities (dependent on programming, may oversee contracted help, volunteers, youth workers, or others).

Physical demands: Extended hours of sitting and operation of standard office and computer equipment. Must be able to lift, pull, push and carry up to fifty pounds in support of equipment. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.


Summation



Summation: Analytical skills are critical to be able to determine staffing needs and develop a plan for sustainable operations. Superior oral and written communication skills are necessary to help facilitate meetings, gather information, and then relay information to user groups as well as potential funding sources. Incumbent must also project a professional image and be able to perform efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment, to prioritize workload, and to maintain high level of quality performance. Must demonstrate discretion, good judgment and tact when dealing with people. This position is expected to develop relationships with rural communities, tribal members, the Fairbanks community-at-large, state and federal agencies as well as private funding agencies and individuals.

Salary : $54,500 - $69,100
