QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse License and State School Nurse Certificate, OR
- Current Michigan Licensed Practicing Nurse License and Certificate
Preferred Education/Certification
- Official Transcripts with a total of 60 credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA from regionally accredited colleges/universities
- Temporary Teaching Authorization
- Current Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Expired Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Out of State Teaching Certificate accompanied by an official undergraduate transcript from a two or four-year accredited college/university showing 60 credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA
Required Experience
- Experience working with children and/or working in the K-12 setting is preferred.
- Experience in nursing with students with disabilities; minimum, one year.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
As a premier substitute, you are guaranteed a daily work assignment.
You will fill a variety of positions within the Special Education setting. The priority would be any 1:1 Nursing positions where the nurse will provide 1:1 medical care for an elementary student with the following needs:
- Performs necessary medical interventions, including but not limited to gastrointestinal tube feedings and g-tube replacement, tracheostomy suctioning and replacement, use of resuscitation bag, medication administration via trach, nasal route, and g-tube, and other interventions as needed.
- Assesses and identifies the signs and symptoms of respiratory distress.
- Documents all medications administered and treatments provided to students
If there are no nursing vacancies, you would fill a certified Special Education teacher position (if appropriately certified), or a paraeducator position. There is potential to move to another district building or level (Elementary/Secondary) for a day if a need is unfilled elsewhere.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS
Work in standard o?ce and school building environments requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina, and environmental awareness.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- 180 school days
- This is an Edustaff position and is not eligible for benefits through Saline Area Schools
PAY RATE
$200 per day
