Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions for multiple construction projects and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. This role will focus on overseeing project accounting, managing financial reports, and supporting the Finance Manager in budget analysis, forecasting, and compliance. This is an ideal position for a highly organized, detail-oriented accounting professional with experience in the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Accounting: Monitor and manage accounting activities for multiple construction projects, including job costing, contract billing, and project profitability analysis.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and present them to management, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- General Ledger Oversight: Oversee and manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely financial data entry and reconciliations.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the development of budgets, forecasts, and financial models for projects and company operations.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Review and approve vendor invoices, track accounts receivable, and ensure timely collection of project payments.
- Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and assist in coordinating external audits.
- Cost Management: Track project costs, analyze budget variances, and work with project managers to implement cost-control strategies.
- Payroll Processing: Oversee payroll processing and ensure accurate job-cost allocations related to labor.
- Internal Controls: Develop and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures to safeguard company assets.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting software (experience with construction-specific software like Sage 300, Procore, or Viewpoint is a plus).
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and familiarity with financial modeling.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with project managers and other departments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
