Line of Business: Finance Job Description: Department Overview: The FR Y14 M/Q Reporting team within the US Regulatory Reporting team is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and submitting the FR Y14 M and FR Y14Q schedules related to loans to the Federal Reserve Board (FRB). The team ensures that the Bank adheres to these reporting requirements and guidelines by accurately compiling and delivering required information. The team provides support in various projects, collaborates with technology partners to enhance automation, and works with various line of business to resolve issues that arise impacting reporting that is under the US Regulatory Reporting team's mandate. Job Summary: The Sr. Specialized Finance Analyst performs a variety of specialized finance functions in a particular finance area(s) with a high level of technical knowledge to give detailed and well-informed opinions of assigned business activities. Depth & Scope: Expert level professional role requiring in-depth knowledge / expertise in own domain / field of specialty and working knowledge of broader related areas Integrates the broader organizational context into advice and solutions within own area Accountable for own work and sometimes others; acts as an escalation point or knowledge resource for others in their own area Understands the industry, competition and the factors that differentiate the organization Applies best practices to implement process, product or service improvements Acts as a subject matter expert within their own area of specialty or a resource for others Supports projects or workstreams within broader projects with moderate risk or complexity and may be accountable for managing ongoing activities, processes and functional programs Contributes to setting standards within area of expertise Solves complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables, including consultation with multiple stakeholders Uses advanced methods to contribute to new solutions and recommend standards against which others will operate Impacts a range of finance programs across own and related teams Interprets guidelines, standards, policies and results of analysis to inform decision making at senior levels Builds stakeholder alignment in leading projects and activities; may provide process and subject matter advice at senior levels Works independently as the senior technical lead and guides others within area of expertise Identifies and leads problem resolution for complex issues at all levels Education & Experience: Undergraduate degree and/or 5 years of relevant experience preferred Accounting, financial or relevant professional designation preferred Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in Excel Proficiency in SQL Detail oriented and strong analytical skills Effective time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills Ability to work both independently and in a team environment Experience with data quality and data warehousing Ability to read and understand technical regulatory reporting instructions Customer Accountabilities: Specializes in particular areas according to established policies and procedures and applicable legal and regulatory guidelines Provides ongoing, proactive, specialized finance advice and counsel to business partners to ensure they are operating efficiently under applicable accounting rules and regulations Communicates and meets regularly with partners to develop an in-depth understanding of their business and to provide accounting/ taxation insight, knowledge and expertise, such as improving accounting process flows or clarifying income and expense recognition practices Recognizes, identifies and investigates business accounting issues that need attention, research as needed, offer specialized opinions based on research and knowledge and resolve problems Responds to accounting-related requests on a timely basis and answers questions as needed. Provides technical guidance and assist staff with most complex aspects of work as necessary Resolves escalated issues and problems by conferring with peers, other internal departments, outside contacts and others as necessary Ensures monthly recording of income, expense and other financial transactions is accurate and timely Researches and determines proper accounting treatment for new products and services as needed and communicate complete, thorough and accurate accounting requirements; considers and explains risk management issues prior to implementation, such as determining how the accounting of new initiatives will be monitored and controlled Performs a variety of activities related to month-end financial closing, which details the Bank's month-to-month financial condition, and/or completion of regulatory reports Reviews monthly financial activity and ensures transactions are appropriately recorded in proper accounts, such as cost capitalizing vs. expensing. Researches discrepancies and makes corrections and updates as necessary Shareholder Accountabilities: Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for our business area Ensures respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities Consistently exercise discretion in managing correspondence, information and all matters of confidentiality; escalates issues where appropriate Ensures business operations are in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements ( e.g. financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals and physical control of assets) Participates in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations Conducts internal and external research projects; supports the development/ delivery of presentations / communications to management or broader audience Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/ policies/ practices Monitors service, productivity and assesses efficiency levels within own function and implements continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist Leads / facilitates and/or implements actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite Employee/Team Accountabilities: Participates fully as a member of the team, supports a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensures timely communication of issues/ points of interest Provides thought leadership and/ or industry knowledge for own area of expertise in own area and participates in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit Keeps current on emerging trends/ developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques Participates in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training within own team Keesp others informed and up-to-date about the status / progress of projects and / or all relevant or useful information related to day-to-day activities Contributes to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of others, by sharing knowledge and experiences and leveraging best practices.
