Excavator/Loader/Rock Drill/Wheel Loader Operator - Pits

Team Elmer's seeks to fill an opening for a skilled Excavator Operator. This position will primarily operate an excavator in a sand and gravel or quarry production facility.

Team Elmer's seeks to fill an opening for a skilled Loader Operator. This position will primarily operate a front end loader to load trucks in a limestone quarry.

Team Elmer's seeks to fill an opening for a skilled Rock Drill Operator. This position will primarily operate a rock drill in a limestone quarry.

Team Elmer's seeks to fill several openings for a skilled Wheel Loader Operator. This position will operate a large wheel loader in a sand and gravel production facility feeding crushing and screening equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate loader.
  • Conduct daily inspections, maintenance, fueling and operation of equipment.
  • Determine what material to feed crushing and screening plant to produce spec and maintain high quality feed material.
  • Set up or inspect equipment prior to operation.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operator shall always maintain control of the equipment.
  • Be alert to site hazards involved with feeding from the load face of material.
  • Watch for any potential site or plant problems that are within your view.
  • Produce material that will provide the most consistent, highest quality end products, under the direction of the Foreman and Aggregate Manager.
  • Seek to operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Become familiar with machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures in a given application.
  • Receive written or oral instructions regarding material movement.
  • Move materials over short distances, such as around a construction site, yard or to loading trucks.
  • Lubricate, adjust, or repair machinery and replace parts, such as gears, bearings, etc.
  • Measure and verify levels of rock or gravel, bases, or other excavated material.
  • Perform manual labor to prepare or finish sites, such as shoveling materials by hand.
  • Know and follow all company safety policies as well as OSHA, MIOSHA, and MSHA regulations.
  • Practice safety at all times including driving of company vehicles or use of equipment. Use PPE while on jobsite e.g. hard hat safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves.
  • Take initiative and anticipate what needs to be done.
  • Work in conjunction and as a team with your crew.
  • May assist other craft workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Valid license, CDL preferred or the ability to obtain within one year
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Clean driving record for past 5 years
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Previous experience as a loader operator required with the ability to demonstrate skill in operating
  • 2-3 years' experience operating a front end loader in a sand and gravel environment, preferred.
  • Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Training, preferred but not required.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.
  • Ability to work long hours performing repetitive movements.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required and work long hours, 5-6 days per week.
  • Must be able and willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to work in all environmental conditions but especially in a dry and hot environment for 10 or more hours a day.
  • Good work ethic, punctuality and alertness.
  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of equipment, machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow all company, DOT, OSHA, and MiOSHA safety rules.
