Location: Dougherty County Campus

Albany Technical College seeks a well-qualified, highly motivated individual to fill the position of Criminal Justice Technology Chairperson/Instructor. Under general supervision, the Criminal Justice Chairperson/Instructor will provide quality classroom, laboratory, and on-line instruction for Criminal Justice Technology courses at the College. As Chairperson, he/she will organize and schedule course offerings, order necessary materials and supplies, equipment, facilitate work-based learning experiences for students and develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies for the Criminal Justice Technology program. He/she will prepare lesson plans and deliver instruction through innovative methods that are more hands-on, project-based, and experimental learning that effectively integrates lab equipment into student learning and assessment. The Chairperson/instructor identifies and prepares instructional materials that will enhance student learning and that are relevant to industry. The Chairperson/instructor will provide learner guidance and academic advisement to students and evaluate student’s progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives. He/she will prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports, maintain a safe and secure classroom environment through effective classroom management techniques, develop course syllabi for all courses, provide a high quality of instruction, develop, and implement student assessment strategies that will evaluate student progress and learning outcomes, and keep an accurate record of student grades and attendance. He/she will adhere to established deadlines, provide proper academic advisement to students, collaborate with business partners to identify workforce needs, and maintain industry related certifications. He/she is the contact/liaison for all adjuncts instructors assigned and is responsible for all daily operations with adjunct instructors. He/she will complete all mandatory trainings, attend meetings, and participate in staff development and conferences. He/she will demonstrate the use of appropriate teaching techniques. He/she will work collaboratively with department counterparts on the curriculum, strive to contribute to the overall success of the college and its students, and be willing to serve on cross-functional teams. The Criminal Justice Chairperson/Instructor will demonstrate knowledge of current trends and development in the Criminal Justice Industry. He/she will use appropriate instructional techniques in theory and practical application in classroom settings and lab environments that closely simulates the Criminal Justice Industry. He/she must have a functional knowledge of computers, basic knowledge of online instructional delivery, and familiarity with learning platforms used in post-secondary education. He/she will follow the approved course syllabus. The Criminal Justice Chairperson/ Instructor will complete all reports, records, and invoices in a timely manner and maintain an accurate inventory of all assigned properties. He/she will advise students of program paths and completion and other tasks as required. The Criminal Justice Chairperson/Instructor will strive to contribute to the overall success of the college and its students. He/she must have excellent verbal, written interpersonal and organizational skills. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, must have functional knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, and must possess appropriate diplomacy and critical thinking skills. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including online, day, evening and/or weekend classes, if applicable.

Minimum Qualifications: The applicant MUST possess a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Police Science, *OR* a master’s degree in a related discipline *AND* have completed eighteen (18) semester hours in Criminal Justice or related field at the graduate level from an accredited college or university. The applicant MUST have seven (7) years’ experience in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice. The applicant’s most recent in-field experience must be within the last three (3) years with credible paid work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum requirements, the applicant MUST have five (5) years of experience teaching at the collegiate level *AND* have experience using a learning management system such as Blackboard. An extensive knowledge of Law Enforcement or the Criminal Justice industry is a plus.

Physical Demands: The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.

Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
