What are the responsibilities and job description for the YMCA Head Swim Team Coach position at Telford Community Center YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
To ensure that all swim team practices and meets are started and finished as scheduled. Performs program to best of ability to achieve obtainable goals set by the Telford Community Center YMCA. Provides a sense of control during scheduled programs. This will increase the safety of the pool for all participants, members, and their guest. The coach will assist during emergency care in the event of an accident. Time will be spent preparing and organizing scheduled programs. Time will be spent doing routine maintenance duties as assigned by the management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
- Plan, organize and implement practices.
- Enforce rules and justly establish disciplinary actions.
- Keep the Program Director informed at all times of any situations relating to swim team.
- In charge of all swim team activities to ensure that all programs are started and finished as scheduled.
- Teach program by the YMCA of the USA guidelines.
- Prevention of accidents both in the water and on the deck.
- Provide rescue and emergency assistance in the event of an accident.
- Maintain a sense of control and safety during scheduled programs.
- Help assistant coaches take care of all equipment plus getting it out and putting it away.
- Take daily attendance and provide feedback to all participants and parents.
- Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as set up by the Program Director as assigned.
- Maintenance duties when needed. These duties include picking up litter on the deck and keeping the deck clear of all obstructions.
- Wear staff uniform and name tag when on duty and appropriate.
- Always have a whistle with you and use as needed.
- Customer service. Be friendly and able to answer general YMCA questions.
- Work your scheduled times or find your own qualified substitute approved by supervisor.
- Fill out incident reports for any accident no matter how minor.
- Either have current knowledge of how to use High Team software or the ability to learn how to use HY-Tech software.
- Member of the Telford YMCA Parent Advisory Council Board (PAC).
- Recruitment of new members of the Telford YMCA swim team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· 21 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent.
· Safety Training for Swim Coaches
· Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen certifications
· Proficient in swimming and safety skills
· Child Protection Training Including Mandated Reporter
· Must demonstrate qualities of a leader and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
· Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving
· Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly to an emergency.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations to assure the safety of all swimmers.
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR, Oxygen and First Aid effectively.
- Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person.
- Must be able to physically stand and sit for an extended period.
- Physically able to see, hear, and communicate clearly and be able to hear noises and distress signals in aquatic environment.
- Swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with members and staff using Listen First skills.
