At Telos Health, an Imperative Care company, we are developing novel robotic-assisted technologies and interventional capabilities that will forever change the disparate outcomes of ischemic stroke – a disease that impacts close to a million people a year in the U.S., and 10 million worldwide.  Not only is Telos changing the way stroke is treated, but also bringing this treatment to the greater population who is currently without. We are actively building a team who is focused on developing novel solutions for this complex disease – a disease in which one in four adults will face in their lifetime.

What You’ll Do

Telos is seeking a skilled Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our rapidly growing team to help us build the next generation of procedural-robotic solutions. As a member of a tight-knit hardware team, you'll be a team lead in the development of the robotics system, which is the backbone of the procedure. Your work will directly contribute to improving access to care for hundreds of thousands of patients a year.

As an engineer at Telos, you will have design ownership of a system that requires quantitative analysis and an in-depth understanding of a multitude of electro-mechanical systems.  This work involves the structural design, motor selection and integration, and drivetrain design for a multiple-degree-of-freedom robot.  You will also collaborate directly with other engineering disciplines, including electrical, optical, systems, and software, to develop requirements and optimize the layout of each sub-system within the structure.  This work also involves collaborating with engineering consultants outside of your own expertise area, along with resolving conflicts when there are multiple competing interests.  In addition, you will be a leader within the organization and help develop less-experienced engineers, and advise peers on complex matters.

To be successful, you will identify problem statements, brainstorm creative solutions, prototype systems, and iterate on the design for a production-ready solution. As you develop the design, you will perform engineering analysis of the system which includes stress analysis and optimization, thermal, fatigue, vibration, and assembly. You will develop and maintain engineering specifications and documentation to enable effective knowledge transfer throughout the company and external suppliers.

  • Integrate multiple mechanical and electrical systems into an easy-to-use product that will withstand thousands of surgical procedures.  This work involves structural design using sheet metal, extrusions, machining, and plastic molding, along with their commensurate joining methods.
  • Collaborate directly with other engineering disciplines, including electrical, systems, and software, to develop requirements and optimize the layout of each sub-system within the structure.
  • Collaborate with the user experience team to incorporate industrial design and usability improvements.
  • Identify problem statements, brainstorm creative solutions, prototype systems, and iterate on the design for a production-ready solution.
  • Perform complex engineering analyses of the system to evaluate variable factors influencing results obtained, including finite element and optimization, thermal, vibration, EMI, and design for assembly principles.
  • Create and maintain engineering specifications and documentation to enable effective knowledge transfer throughout the company.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing throughout development to ensure device quality and performance.

What You’ll Bring :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with at least 8 years of experience or MS in Engineering and 6 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience in developing robotics solutions.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods including machining, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, and injection molding.
  • Hands-on engineering with the proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Analysis skills, including statics, dynamics, strength of materials and stress analysis
  • Must be capable of working independently and in a team while being flexible and self-motivated
  • Previous experience in developing Medical Devices in an FDA-regulated environment is preferred
  • Employee Benefits include a stake in our collective success with stock options, competitive salaries, a 401k plan, health benefits, generous PTO, and a parental leave program.
