Position Summary:
The Histotechnician supports the pathology histology laboratory in preparing, processing, and staining tissue specimens for review by the pathologists. They will ensure accurate and timely processing and handling of specimens.
Primary duties & responsibilities:
- Responsible for accessioning, grossing, embedding, microtomy, performing H&E and Papanicolaou staining, and coverslipping of all surgical/cytologic specimen slides for microscopic analysis.
- Loading the blocks on the processor, ensuring quality and timeliness of production.
- Organize cases by matching slides with appropriate paperwork and/or laying slides out in slide folders.
- Provide maintenance or troubleshooting of equipment and automated instrumentation within the laboratory.
- Assists supervisor in meeting department regulatory agency requirements (CAP, CLIA, etc.)
- Performs quality control procedures per protocol and completes necessary documentation.
- Maintain supplies and other inventory.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- Minimum of two years of Histology experience required.
- National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) Accredited Training Certificate and/or HT or HTL certification highly desirable.

- Excellent customer service/relations skills.
- Excellent embedding, sectioning, and histology techniques with human tissues.
- Ability to multi-task, self-motivation, reliability, and accountability in meeting timelines.
- Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal & written.
- Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance.
