Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, Tepha is currently seeking a Research Associate who will be involved in many aspects of producing and developing biomaterials, including the analysis, production, isolation, purification and testing of biomaterials within well-defined guidelines. The Research Associate will need to use appropriate analytical tools to characterize and qualify the biomaterials, such as gas chromatography (GC), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and mechanical testing. S/he will interact with contract testing laboratories to conduct appropriate testing on the materials and may also provide supervision and guidance to junior level technicians.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare in vivo/in vitro samples, solutions and reagents used in laboratory procedures.
- Conduct tests of polymer/biomaterial samples for product release or R&D purposes.
- Assist in designing and executing appropriate experiments and evaluating the data generated in-house and from contract laboratories.
- Support R&D Manager in the execution of standard analytical internal and external tests and in the generation of analytical reports.
- Present research findings to scientists, engineers and other colleagues.
- Provide instruction and training to interns and junior research personnel.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- 1 year of relevant experience required; chemistry and polymer experience preferred.
- BSc required; MSc preferred.
- Skills necessary for the analysis, production, isolation and purification of biomaterials, which includes basic skills in wet chemistry (extraction, filtration and precipitation) and analytical skills to characterize and qualify the biomaterials (LC, GC, GPC) and mechanical testing.
- Conduct assigned tasks under supervision of senior scientific staff; perform assigned tasks by applying general procedures, methods, and scientific techniques; work on multiple activities in parallel.
- Good communication and data management skills are needed to communicate and document research findings and for record keeping.
