Terrestris, LLC, an SBA-certified 8(a) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), is seeking a Project Accountant to support our growing operations. The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of a govcon organization, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective financial planning and analysis. This position will work with an internal team running all business operations. This role involves overseeing billing, coding, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable, as well as collaborating with management to optimize financial performance.
This will report to the President and also the CEO. This position will be a hybrid role but is typically based in Springfield, VA with a minimum of 3 days in the office.
What your day looks like:
· Process payroll in Paylocity and perform administrative data entry tasks.
· Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks Desktop.
· Process accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R) transactions.
· Support the CFO with bank and account reconciliations.
· Organize and maintain financial documentation and filing systems.
· Prepare and analyze financial statements: balance sheets, income, and cash flow statements.
· Pay vendors monthly utilizing ACH or Wire transfers.
· Generate management reports and financial presentations.
· Monitor compliance with tax laws, regulations, and government requirements.
· Support DCAA, GSA, and IRS audit readiness and responses.
· Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
· Improve internal controls and recommend process improvements.
· Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
· Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Business Development, and Operations.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting (or equivalent combination of education/experience).
· 2 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
· Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and general accounting software.
· Strong understanding of GAAP, A/P, A/R, reconciliations, and payroll operations.
· Experience with budgets, EACs (Estimates at Completion), and projections.
· Excellent problem-solving, data analysis, and decision-making skills.
· Strong communication skills (oral and written).
· Highly organized with exceptional time management and multitasking ability.
· Ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
· Experience working in cross-functional teams or multicultural environments is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working with government customers with a focus on Government Contracting
· Solid understanding of GAAP, AP/AR, reconciliations, and payroll processes.
