The Opportunity

Tetra Tech’s Mid-Atlantic Region is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer PFAS Subject Matter Expert with at least 15 years’ experience in environmental and remediation-related projects. This position is considered to be a highly technical, expert level Seller-Doer position that both leads and supports the PFAS Program Initiative for the EGS Division of Tetra Tech. Must be a US citizen due to the clients we serve.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as EGS Division PFAS Lead and Subject Matter Expert both internally and externally;
  • Maintain regulatory awareness of ever changing PFAS regulatory issues and communication focal point for regulatory updates;
  • Participate and lead existing Tetra Tech PFAS collaborative resource groups;
  • Manage or assist in assigned complex PFAS Projects for various federal entities;
  • When applicable, manage project financials including all aspects of budgets, costs, and contingencies.
  • When applicable, provide program level financial progress reports.
  • Review, prepare and/or monitor scopes, schedules, and budgets as necessary for assigned projects;
  • Technical work, including but not limited to engineering design, drawing review and stamping, and QA/QC;
  • Implement effective design methods, providing technical guidance for engineers and designers.
  • Assist clients with strategic planning for prioritization of projects.
  • When applicable, assist in regulatory relations, negotiations, conducting and leading meetings, and routine reporting.
  • Develop and manage relationships to facilitate the successful delivery of the projects.
  • Provide proper implementation of risk management procedures;
  • Prepare and present routine program progress status reports and presentations to multiple stakeholders.
  • Conduct value engineering reviews, integrated planning, project cost reviews.
  • Monitor Health and Safety aspects of projects and recommend changes as necessary; and
  • Monitor Quality Assurance procedures and recommend necessary changes.
  • Participate in the professional community and build the Tetra Tech brand.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Professional license (e.g., PE) is required.
  • Possess project management capabilities and experience effectively balancing direct and indirect utilization rates.
  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher training.
  • Exceptionally high-level knowledge and experience with PFAS including treatment, destruction technologies, and regulatory direction.
  • Superior technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in delivering technical and business presentations, including presentations at the national level;
  • Proven understanding and experience with federal environmental program management
  • Proven PFAS project management experience.
  • Experience managing a team of professionals with a wide array of skills sets; and
  • Ability to provide technical expertise to design staff.
  • Due to contractual requirements, must be a US Citizen.

Education & Experience

  • MS Degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or related degree is required.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience with increasing responsibility in the environmental consulting market, managing complex engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of local and federal environmental regulations and guidance is preferred.
  • CERCLA experience is plus.
  • Experience with governmental projects is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Experience working on and possibly leading the preparation of technical deliverables is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Department Lead will be responsible for mentoring junior and mid-level staff as appropriate.

  • Must be fluent in the English language – writing, reading, and speaking.
  • Must have a high level of written and oral communication skills and the ability to work and collaborate with employees at all levels and disciplines.
  • Successful candidate must possess effective communication skills, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to effectively present information, communicate, and respond to questions.
  • Ability to read, research, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical documents and procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, and SOPs procedures; and
  • The successful candidate must have the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints and the ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics.

Other Skills: Candidates must have experience with applicable computer systems including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite programs (i.e., Word, Project, Excel, and Access or related database software).
