What we want The Police Officer II prevents and investigates violations of the law, University rules and regulations. What you need to know Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience. Special Instructions: A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended. You may upload these in the CV/Resume section. Required Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED One year as a licensed Police Officer. Preferred Experience: Two - Five years experience as a licensed Police Officer. Required Licenses and Certifications: Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification. State of TX class “C” driver's license. All system university police will be required to meet minimum licensing standard requirements as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) § 217.1. Preferred Licenses and Certifications: Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Intermediate certification or higher Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus community. Ability to function under adverse and stressful condition. Ability to work under stress. Ability to comprehend technical aspects of communications equipment. Responsibilities: Patrol - Patrols property under the jurisdiction of the Texas A&M University in Galveston County by motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot. Enforces all criminal laws of the state of Texas and violations of Texas A&M at Galveston rules and regulations. Administrative duties - Takes reports and performs preliminary police investigations. Reports all violations of the rules and regulations of Texas A&M University oat Galveston. Public Service - Provides assistance to the public whenever possible. Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances. Issues citations and testifies in justice of the peace courts, as well as county and district courts and at student judicial hearings. Guards and transports prisoners. Emergency Response - Interacts with the public on a day to day basis. Responds to emergency calls and takes appropriate action. Other Requirements or Other Factors: Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Applicant must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment. Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
